The service comprises one board-certified anesthesiologist, one full-time emergency anesthesia veterinarian, and one specialty intern, supported by Licensed Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants. AMC is the only VETCOT certified, Level one trauma center in the region. Description The Senior Veterinarian in ER will play a paramount and integral role in the Emergency and Critical Care Department. The clinical responsibilities of our ER doctors include primary case receiving as well as oversight of the interns and ECC residents seeing emergency cases. The overnight rotation for ER doctors includes oversight and monitoring of all pets hospitalized in the ICU and of the interns in the ER. The senior ER doctor schedule varies among daytime, swing, and overnight shifts, during which time you will be working alongside 1-3 senior ER doctors and/or criticalists and 4-6 rotating interns (shift depending). About Emergency & Critical Care at AMC The ECC Department is comprised of ten board-certified specialists in ECC, seven internship-trained emergency doctors, nine residents, 35 licensed technicians (several with their VTS in ECC), and 22 assistants. In our newly renovated ICU, patients are co-managed by ECC and allied services or managed primarily by the ECC team. Our ER is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has an active caseload of nearly 20,000 visits per year. AMC is the only VETCOT certified, Level one trauma center in the region. The Senior Veterinarian in ER will play a paramount and integral role in the Emergency and Critical Care Department. Clinical responsibilities include primary case receiving as well as oversight of interns and ECC residents seeing emergency cases. The overnight rotation includes oversight and monitoring of all pets hospitalized in the ICU and supervision of interns in the ER. The schedule varies among daytime, swing, and overnight shifts, working alongside 1–3 senior ER doctors and/or criticalists and 4–6 rotating interns, depending on the shift. Senior ER doctors share responsibilities in the ER with boarded criticalists and senior ECC residents. The role is demanding but highly rewarding, offering opportunities for continuous professional growth. Senior ER doctors are encouraged to participate in internal and external continuing education and remain current with ECC literature.
