Role Summary
You will play a crucial role in the development and architecture of our next-generation robotics diagnostic system and improve the reliability and maintainability of the robotic fleet. You will architect the embedded diagnostic test structure,and translate complex sensor readings and error logs into actionable, easy-to-read health reports. Your work is expected to accelerate root cause analysis for engineering, manufacturing, and support teams. This role requires tight collaboration with our Data and Infrastructure teams, and the Operations team to build a robust, scalable diagnostic infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain the diagnostic framework embedded in robotics software stack, enabling both autonomous and on-demand manual diagnostic scans.
- Contribute to the diagnostic data schema, ensuring efficient, standardized, and human-readable reporting of fault codes, event logs, and status checks. Ensure the scalability of the data schema, and optimize it for use by both on-robot systems and cloud-based analytics tools.
- Work closely with hardware and integration teams to develop embedded diagnostic tests that surface robot hardware issues, abnormal sensor behavior (e.g., drift, noise, and communication failures), battery, power or motor anomalies, and transient firmware glitches.
- Collaborate with the Infrastructure team and build the data pipeline responsible for reliably collecting, storing and processing high volumes of diagnostic data from the robot fleet.
- Ensure diagnostics generate clear, prioritized, and contextualized reports that summarize the state of the robot, enabling engineers to quickly understand the root cause of an abnormality without extensive log diving.
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of professional experience in developing diagnostics, monitoring, or telemetry systems for complex electro-mechanical devices, robotics, or embedded systems.
- Proficiency in software development (e.g., Rust, C++) with specific experience in writing testable, robust code for embedded environments or robotics middleware.
- Experience with data structuring, schema design, and working with data ingestion pipelines (e.g., utilizing message queues, time-series databases, or cloud data storage).
- Deep understanding of common robotics hardware and firmware failure modes, including motor control systems, sensor interfaces (e.g., CAN, I2C, Serial, USB), and power management systems. Technical triaging skills, familiarity with Ishikawa diagram are big plus.
- Familiarity with interpreting hardware schematics and leveraging low-level system logs to identify failure points.

About the Role We're looking for a Staff NPI Manufacturing Engineer to lead the transition of innovative, electromechanical designs from prototype through pilot builds into scaled production. This role focuses on new product introduction (NPI) and is critical in ensuring manufacturability, quality, and testability across electromechanical subsystems and sub-assemblies including hardware, sensors, actuators, cables, and integration modules. This is a highly cross-functional role, partnering with electrical and mechanical design, test engineering, quality, and supply chain—along with EMS and mechanical suppliers—to ensure rapid, repeatable, and high-quality production launches. About the Work - Lead NPI activities across multiple product lines, managing the transition from design to production for various electromechanical subassemblies. - Own DFM/DFA/DFT efforts during early design phases to influence product architecture and ensure manufacturing scalability. - Develop and release work instructions, BOMs, process flows, test procedures, and fixture/tooling designs across prototype and pilot builds. - Drive build readiness, supporting Proto/EVT/DVT/PVT activities including line bring-up, process validation, and pilot build execution. - Troubleshoot and resolve issues at the sub-system and system level, conducting structured root cause analysis for mechanical or electrical issues. - Partner with EMS providers and component suppliers to drive first-pass yield, throughput, and process capability. - Support yield improvements and cost reduction through data analysis and process optimization using SPC, lean, and 6 sigma tools. - Contribute to environmental, reliability, and lifecycle testing plans and setups (e.g., burn-in, thermal cycling, HALT). - Develop, review, and release manufacturing specifications, drawings, BOMs, processes, SOPs, equipment, workflows, and tools/fixtures for new products to support high-quality production. - Collaborate with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure effective qualification, process capabilities, and material disposition. - Document processes clearly and communicate effectively across teams. About You - Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, with 7+ years of relevant experience. - 5+ years in manufacturing assembly for electromechanical or embedded systems products; experience in NPI environments directly working on the manufacturing floor is highly preferred. - Hands-on experience in supporting and troubleshooting the design, assembly, and testing of electro-mechanical systems utilizing data analysis and lean methods. - Experience in transitioning products and processes from development to production (NPI), including into Production Validation Testing (PVT) through to end of life (EOL). - Familiarity with creating manufacturing test requirements, test stand equipment development, validation testing, Engineering Change Order (ECO) production release, and training engineers, production staff, and suppliers/CMs. - Proficiency with Altium and/or Creo is a significant plus, along with mechanical design knowledge to create and release test fixtures. - Experience supporting EMS/CM partners and driving supply chain readiness. - Working knowledge of FMEA, ECO processes, PLM systems, and design validation best practices. - Excellent communication, technical documentation, and collaboration skills.
