Description

You will help build and operate backend services and integrate field IoT devices, sensors, and interfaces into a digital platform for monitoring and control. The role focuses on reliability and quality: testing, troubleshooting across system layers, monitoring/logging/alerting, and robust data-quality and fallback mechanisms. You’ll also support secure commissioning and remote access for customer installations and document technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve backend services in Java/Spring Boot: bug fixing and enhancing quality, maintainability, performance, and fault tolerance

• Integrate new devices, sensors, technical interfaces, and functions; test systematically and connect them reliably to the platform

• Analyze incidents across multiple system layers, narrow down root causes, and implement fixes with internal teams and the IT service provider

• Enhance monitoring, logging, and alerting so failures are detected early and causes can be traced quickly

• Support complex commissioning and troubleshooting in customer installations (secure remote access, updates, configuration, logs, and connectivity issues)

• Integrate data-driven features and ensure data quality; handle missing/contradictory/implausible sensor data and communication failures with robust fallback mechanisms

• Document technical decisions and interfaces, share knowledge in the team, and communicate system limits and options

• Collaborate as the internal technical point of contact with the experienced IT service provider; implement solutions directly or involve additional specialists when needed

• Support additional expertise integration for specialist topics such as electrical planning, statistics, or deeper IT security checks

• Communicate clearly and constructively, take responsibility for gaps and errors, and seek support when necessary

Requirements

• Several years of practical backend experience with Java and Spring Boot, including automated tests, refactoring, and production-grade software

• Experience with distributed systems, technical interfaces, and systematic error analysis

• Solid Linux knowledge, including confident log handling and basic networking understanding

• Good knowledge of relational databases and SQL

• Experience with monitoring, version control, code reviews, and controlled releases

• Ability to understand end-to-end technical relationships, make decisions transparently, and implement solutions independently or with partners

• Ability and willingness to contribute code and ideas and evolve existing solutions pragmatically

• Experience with IoT or industrial device integration

• Familiarity with MQTT (or similar messaging protocols) and REST APIs

• Experience with IoT/industrial communication protocols and integrating sensors, actuators, and controllers

• Knowledge of VPN, certificates, firewalls, and secure remote maintenance

• Experience with time-series databases and sensor data processing

• Understanding IoT security, plausibility checks, and safe fallback states
