Senior • On-site

160,200 - 261,000 USD/yr

West Lafayette, IN

Quick Facts

  • Role: Senior Quantum Nanofabrication Engineer

  • Focus: Semiconductor and quantum-device nanofabrication (process development and integration)

Description

Work at a senior, hands-on level to develop, optimize, qualify, and integrate fabrication processes for advanced quantum devices. You will independently own challenging fabrication process modules—identify issues, run experiments, analyze data with metrology, troubleshoot equipment/process problems, and improve repeatability and yield. Collaborate with materials growth, device design, characterization, and engineering teams to translate device requirements into practical fabrication flows.

Responsibilities

  • Build quantum devices using a range of nano-fabrication techniques and understand how process conditions affect device performance

  • Conduct experiments to create and improve fabrication processes; use quantitative characterization/metrology to establish process windows and identify failure mechanisms

  • Partner with device physicists, materials scientists, growth engineers, characterization teams, and fabrication engineers to connect device requirements to fabrication processes

  • Help develop fabrication-improvement tools by identifying process/equipment capability gaps and supporting equipment upgrades and process improvements

  • Collect and analyze fabrication and characterization data to maintain and improve processes and drive better performance, reliability, repeatability, and yield

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience; OR Bachelor’s degree AND 5+ years technical engineering experience; OR equivalent experience

  • Pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check (and repeat every two years thereafter)

  • Verify citizenship/permitted status for access to export-controlled information (passport verification required)

  • Ability to leverage AI tools for performance modeling, research gathering, and task automation; apply AI to accelerate engineering and lab workflows

Benefits

  • Eligible for benefits and other compensation (additional pay/benefits details provided in the posting)

  • Typical U.S. base pay range: USD $119,800–$234,700 per year (different ranges apply for specific locations, including San Francisco Bay area and New York City metro)

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Doctorate or advanced degree with additional years of technical engineering experience

  • 8+ years hands-on experience developing semiconductor, superconducting, MEMS, photonic, or other advanced micro- or nanofabrication processes

  • 8+ years hands-on experience with electron-beam lithography or advanced optical lithography

  • 8+ years hands-on experience with thin-film deposition (ALD, e-beam evaporation, sputtering, CVD)

  • Experience developing plasma etch processes (ion-mill, RIE, and/or ALE)

  • Experience with III-V semiconductor processing and gate dielectric depositions on III-Vs
