Palo Alto, CA

Quick Facts

  • Role: Thermal Design Engineering Intern (SI Hardware)

  • Expected start: Around January 2027

  • Duration: Through the Spring term (approximately May 2027 or later, if available)

  • Schedule: Minimum 12 weeks, Full-Time (40 hours/week), on-site

Description

Join the SI Hardware team to design and validate air and liquid cooling solutions for high-density SI data centers powered by Dojo. The internship includes CFD-based thermal/fluid modeling, evaluation of advanced cooling technologies, first-principles thermal/mechanical simulations, and validation support for low-voltage electronic systems. You will collaborate cross-functionally across the system design—from chip package and PCBs to trays, racks, and infrastructure—and communicate results via documentation and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CFD modeling of heat transfer and fluid flow for SI hardware cooling

  • Support evaluation of new cooling technologies (TIMs, heat spreaders, coldplates)

  • Conduct thermal and mechanical first-principles analysis and simulations

  • Test and validate electronic systems across all low-voltage electronics

  • Support manufacturing lines and test engineers to quickly identify issues, resolve problems, and develop production solutions

  • Create clear documentation and presentations to communicate concepts, designs, and findings

Requirements

  • Actively pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a thermals-related field (graduation between May 2027 – December 2027)

  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics fundamentals

  • Experience with CFD and developing numerical models of thermal/fluid systems

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical or thermal testing and data analysis

  • Passion for electro-mechanical product design and creative problem solving for mechanical/thermal challenges

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and presentation skills

  • Ability to work 40 hours/week on-site for at least 12 weeks (start around January 2027)

Benefits

  • Medical plans with plan options and $0 payroll deduction
