Quick Facts

  • Role: Reliability Engineer for vehicle exterior and lighting systems

  • Focus: Designing reliability through the full product lifecycle

Description

You will design reliability into exterior and lighting systems—including panels, bumpers, lighting assemblies, seals, glass, aero surfaces, and coatings—by planning accelerated tests and driving reliability growth from concept through field operation. You will analyze field and environmental conditions, lead design FMEA risk sessions, and collaborate across engineering and suppliers to resolve failures. You will also use reliability modeling and life data analysis to inform design decisions and service life/warranty forecasting.

Responsibilities

  • Design accelerated test plans for design validation, burn-in testing, and reliability growth

  • Analyze field usage and environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, UV, dust, salt, mud, chemical exposure) to set durability requirements and test methods

  • Facilitate and lead design FMEA sessions to identify product risks and define validation test plans

  • Partner with design, test, manufacturing quality, supplier quality, and service engineering to identify root causes and drive corrective actions

  • Collaborate with mechanical design and material engineering teams on reliability for emerging architectures

  • Create process validation test plans for suppliers and drive root cause corrective action for production process issues

  • Perform reliability modeling, life data analysis, and quantitative predictions for design and service life/warranty forecasting

  • Provide reliability design guidelines and apply lessons learned for continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Material Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of experience with mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems such as exterior panels/fascias, lighting assemblies, seals and weatherstrips, coatings, glass/glazing, or related high-reliability applications

  • Proficiency in failure modes and degradation mechanisms for exterior and lighting systems: polymer aging, coating degradation, UV/weathering, corrosion, sealing and water ingress, condensation, thermal cycling, fatigue, optical/thermal aging

  • Ability to manage parallel tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • Self-motivated, proactive, and resilient in tough circumstances
