Description

Lead the development of next-generation networking applications by building and improving virtual networking data plane distributed systems and tools. Work on NSX Data Plane for the ESX hypervisor, covering virtual switches, overlay technologies (VXLAN, Geneve), and areas such as security and QoS. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, well-tested, high-performance software.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the NSX data plane for the ESX hypervisor (virtual networking high-performance data plane)

• Architect, design, implement, and integrate new and improved features with other developers

• Implement/extend virtual switches and overlay networking technologies (VXLAN, Geneve)

• Build data plane virtualization features using C/C++/Python

• Work with physical NIC drivers and SmartNIC solutions, including software/hardware offload interfaces

• Write well-documented, high-performance, reliable, maintainable code

• Create testing strategy, test cases, and test data; ensure thorough unit and functional testing

• Participate in specification/design/implementation, support, and product performance improvements

• Provide technical leadership on complex problems; contribute to patents and publications

• Characterize, analyze, optimize, and benchmark performance using performance tools

• Perform hands-on performance development (CPU utilization, memory profiling, optimizations, benchmarking)

• Collaborate closely with DevOps and drive detailed software design/documentation

Requirements

• Strong grasp of design and development for the virtual networking data plane

• Strong C/C++/Python implementation experience for reliable software

• Experience building high-performance, highly concurrent, scalable multi-threaded solutions

• In-depth hardware architectural knowledge (multi-core/multi-thread CPUs, pipelines, cache hierarchies, TLBs, interconnects, memory address translations, NUMA)

• Hands-on performance analysis, benchmarking, and troubleshooting (data gathering, scalability testing, profiling preferred)

• Ability to create testing strategy, detailed test cases, and test data

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

• Base salary range: USD 143,800–230,000
