Description

The Principal Data Scientist leads high-impact data science and AI initiatives with customers, transforming missions using AI and other cloud-based solutions. You oversee data acquisition and preparation, coach best practices for data cleaning and analysis, and evaluate/improve models with an emphasis on operational scale. The role also involves defining customer and solution strategy goals, maintaining deep industry knowledge, and writing extensible code with strong debugging discipline.

Responsibilities

• Oversee data acquisition; ensure data is properly formatted and described

• Coach engineers on data cleaning and analysis best practices; identify gaps in current data sets

• Drive ethics and privacy discussions around data collection and preparation

• Evaluate team models; recommend improvements and drive model best practices

• Develop operational models that run at scale; review data analysis and modeling techniques

• Identify and invent new evaluation methods

• Research and maintain deep knowledge of industry trends and technologies to spot strategy opportunities

• Write extensible code across multiple features and apply proper debugging techniques

• Define business, customer, and solution strategy goals; partner with other teams to explore new opportunities

• Deliver customer-oriented, pragmatic solutions aligned with customers’ data capabilities

Requirements

• Doctorate in a relevant field with 5+ years of data-science experience, or Master’s with 7+, or Bachelor’s with 10+ (or equivalent experience), including managing structured and unstructured data and applying statistical techniques

• Must meet security screening requirements, including an active TS/SCI clearance and willingness/eligibility to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph), with ongoing maintenance of clearance

• U.S. citizenship verification required

• Successful clearance verification prior to offer

• Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
