Description

You will drive the design, development, and deployment of backend platform capabilities in a restricted Azure greenfield environment for hosting and operating models. You will design a REST API that enables users to query models, and use Azure Databricks to deploy and host model workloads. You will also define model deployment processes, including wrapping models with an MLflow wrapper and shaping the API contract.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and deployment of backend platform capabilities in an Azure greenfield environment

• Design a REST API to allow users to query models

• Leverage Azure Databricks to host and deploy models

• Establish model deployment guidelines, including MLflow-wrapped model packaging and API shape

• Implement CI/CD best practices with GitLab, ensuring code quality, testing, and deployment automation

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 5+ engineers

Requirements

• 8+ years of data engineering experience; 2+ years in a leadership role

• Strong Python expertise and data engineering libraries (multithreading, async, REST API, exceptions, Pydantic)

• Strong Azure experience including Azure Databricks, Azure App Service, and IAM/RBAC

• Proficiency with CI/CD workflows and version control using GitLab; DevOps practices

• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes

• Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced agile environment

• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management
