Description

Join an international Web GIS project developing a global mapping system for settlement use cases and crisis-management exposure layers. You will own full-stack development from front-end architecture and UI interactions to backend logic, APIs, and database integration, with strong emphasis on rendering performance, network efficiency, accessibility, and scalability. You will also design geospatial data transformation processes and build secure, user-friendly web visualizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain full-stack functionality (front-end architecture and UX interactions, backend logic, APIs, and database integration)

  • Monitor, test, and optimize Web GIS architecture with focus on performance, rendering, network, accessibility, and scalability

  • Design and implement new and improved components to enhance UX

  • Build data transformation processes and automation scripts for converting scientific/geospatial formats (e.g., XLS and TIFF → JSON/GeoJSON/Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF)

  • Apply web application security best practices (input validation/sanitization, XSS protection, vulnerability analysis and remediation aligned with OWASP Top 10)

  • Develop responsive applications across browsers/devices and integrate with REST APIs

  • Implement server-side proxy services/endpoints

  • Create graphical and interactive visualizations, infographics, and data-driven publication templates aligned with visual identity

  • Test, debug, analyze issues, and prepare technical documentation

Requirements

  • Education: university degree and/or extensive IT experience (thresholds specified for Master’s / Bachelor’s/Engineering / Secondary)

  • Minimum experience: 15+ years in end-to-end web application development

  • 10+ years in geospatial web programming

  • 10+ years in UI/UX design

  • 5+ years with Git and knowledge of legacy systems using SVN

  • Front-end: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, jQuery, Kendo UI Professional for jQuery, OpenLayers; legacy JS (ES3/ES5) and modern ES6+

  • Tooling: Webpack or Vite

  • Backend: experience with Java, Node.js, or PHP; Spring Boot, Hibernate, REST API

  • Experience with PHP for lightweight server-side functions or Node.js for offline scripts, automation, and transformation

  • SQLite and SQL data access

  • Security & accessibility: certification/professional training in IT Security/Web Application Security and digital accessibility

  • Data & AI credentials: IBM Data Science Professional Certificate (or equivalent); IBM AI Engineering Professional Certificate (or equivalent) for AI/ML methods for scientific/geospatial data products

  • UX & usability: certification/professional training in UX research

  • Languages: English B2+ and Italian B2+
