Description

You will turn ambiguous problems into working software and architect/build new products end to end from initial concept through prototypes, pilots, and MVPs. You will own integrations end to end, including composing and consuming other products’ APIs/platforms and connecting into client systems for auth/identity, provisioning, events/webhooks, and learning standards. You will instrument products for telemetry and evaluation to support evidence-led kill-or-scale decisions, and use AI when appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Take new product concepts from architecture sketch to working software (prototypes, pilots, MVPs)
• Own integrations end to end: integrate Pearson APIs/platforms and connect into client-side systems
• Implement authentication/identity flows (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML)
• Implement provisioning (SCIM)
• Implement events and webhooks
• Implement learning standards integrations where applicable (LTI, SCORM, xAPI)
• Right-size engineering effort to the stage of the bet (disposable prototypes vs production-grade foundations)
• Work with client technical teams during pilots (discovery, scoping, deployment, debugging)
• Instrument telemetry, evaluation, and data needed for kill-or-scale decisions
• Use AI as a force multiplier in workflows and, where applicable, inside products
• Contribute beyond code: shape concepts, join research sessions, pressure-test feasibility
• Partner with platform, security, and architecture teams so products land well in the wider organization

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering with genuine full-stack range
• Track record of building products from scratch (founder, founding engineer, or labs/incubation/new-products team)
• Integration depth: design and consume APIs (REST, GraphQL), build auth/identity flows, eventing, and move data between systems
• Systems thinking for complex enterprise environments
• Pragmatic engineering judgment to optimize for learning speed early and reliability later
• Comfort with modern AI-assisted development; informed opinions on when AI belongs in a product
• Strong communication with technical and non-technical audiences; client-facing technical conversations

Nice to have

• Learning technology standards/platform experience (LTI, SCORM, xAPI, QTI, Caliper, 1EdTech ecosystem, LMS/LXP integration)
• Web standards depth (W3C, WHATWG) and practical accessibility knowledge (WCAG)
• Participation in standards-body/working groups
• Experience turning research (user/technical) into build decisions

Benefits

• Full-time salary range: $100,000 – $169,000
• Eligible to participate in an annual incentive program
