Senior Scala Engineer

This opportunity supports the modernization and expansion of cloud-based services and data products used by a global network of dealers, enterprise customers, and internal business units. The work includes scalable APIs, event-driven platforms, analytics pipelines, and cloud-native solutions for quoting, ordering, asset telemetry, diagnostics, and lifecycle management for heavy equipment worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Scala.
• Build distributed-system components and event-processing services.
• Develop highly available APIs and integrations.
• Design and implement fault-tolerant, event-driven architectures.
• Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
• Ensure high-quality software through testing, automation, code reviews, and best practices.
• Support integration, acceptance, and QA activities.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Agile environments.
• Own services throughout their entire lifecycle, from design through production support.

Requirements

Must Have

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of commercial Scala experience.
• 5+ years building distributed systems using Akka (Streams, Actors, HTTP, Persistence) or Apache Pekko.
• 5+ years of AWS experience.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating event-driven architectures.
• Experience with Kafka, AWS Kinesis, or equivalent technologies.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices.
• Functional programming experience with Cats, Cats Effect, and ZIO.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and advanced SQL.
• Docker experience.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitHub Actions.
• Understanding of software architecture and solution design.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to independently drive technical initiatives.
• Experience working in Agile environments.
• Ability to overlap with US Central Time business hours through 2 PM CT.
