Oracle Java Licensing & Compliance Consultant

Project duration: Approximately 2–3 months
Engagement model: Flexible. Full-time commitment expected during the initial assessment phase (first few weeks), followed by part-time support during analysis, remediation planning, and presentation phases.

Description

Assess the organization’s Java landscape, identify licensing and compliance risks, and recommend remediation and optimization strategies. Work closely with IT, Infrastructure, Security, Procurement, and Software Asset Management teams.

Responsibilities

  • Assess Java versions deployed across the organization, including Oracle Java, OpenJDK, Eclipse Temurin, Amazon Corretto, Microsoft Build of OpenJDK, and Red Hat OpenJDK.
  • Inventory servers, workstations, applications, and environments using Java.
  • Analyze Oracle Java licensing, contractual, financial, and compliance risks.
  • Evaluate audit exposure and compliance gaps.
  • Assess security, support, and maintenance implications of current Java deployments.
  • Review existing contracts, subscriptions, and usage rights.
  • Estimate potential financial exposure related to non-compliant usage.
  • Evaluate migration options to alternative Java distributions.
  • Compare technical, operational, organizational, and financial impacts of different scenarios.
  • Develop a remediation strategy and implementation roadmap.
  • Present findings and recommendations to IT and Procurement stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with Oracle Java licensing and compliance assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of Java ecosystems, including Oracle Java and OpenJDK-based distributions.
  • Experience conducting software licensing audits, SAM, ITAM, or compliance reviews.
  • Understanding of enterprise application landscapes and infrastructure environments.
  • Experience assessing financial and operational risks related to software licensing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent report-writing, presentation, and communication skills in English.
