Senior backend / infrastructure consultant

Description

A highly autonomous consultant is needed to take ownership of a specialized modernization and optimization assignment. The consultant will work closely with an Engineering Manager to evaluate, maintain, and define the future strategy for an existing referral platform that has operated in maintenance mode for several years.

The solution consists of multiple backend services across development, integration, and production environments. The assignment combines technical and strategic work: assessing the platform’s current state, reducing complexity and operational overhead, evaluating migration paths to third-party solutions, and providing business-oriented decision support based on cost and value analysis.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the current architecture and operational footprint.
• Identify and remove non-critical functionality to simplify the platform.
• Evaluate whether parts or all of the solution should be migrated to a third-party service.
• Estimate operational and development costs.
• Gather and analyze business value, revenue impact, and ROI metrics.
• Develop recommendations and an execution plan for the platform’s future.

Required Profile

• Strong infrastructure background, preferably within Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Solid backend development experience.
• Kotlin experience is highly preferred.
• Highly self-driven and comfortable working independently.
• Ability to estimate and analyze the real costs of running and maintaining software systems.
• Strong business understanding and ability to translate technical findings into decision-making material for stakeholders.
• Comfortable taking ownership of aging systems and driving simplification, optimization, or decommissioning initiatives.
