Description

The Senior Data Platform Engineer will build and maintain data infrastructure for public-health and food-security initiatives, including national-scale HIV, malaria, TB, crop, and soil data work.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain data pipelines using ETL and/or ELT approaches, selecting patterns based on trade-offs.
  • Build reliable pipelines with idempotency, backfills, and handling for late or corrected data.
  • Structure data systems into clear raw, cleaned, and curated layers with defined purposes and guarantees.
  • Choose batch, micro-batch, or streaming approaches based on latency, correctness, and operational complexity.
  • Contribute robust software design, readable code, tests, version control, and logical software architectures.
  • Participate in regular design sessions, code reviews, and collaborative team work.
  • Work across a broad range of problems and technologies.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and maintaining ETL and/or ELT data pipelines.
  • Understanding of data-pipeline reliability, including idempotency, backfills, and late or corrected data.
  • Ability to design layered data systems and select batch, micro-batch, or streaming architectures.
  • Strong software-engineering background, including version control, readable code, testing, robust design, and basic data structures and algorithms.
  • Development experience on UNIX-based or OSX-Darwin platforms.
  • Working English proficiency at C1 or higher, including speaking, reading, and typing at least 45 words per minute.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to collaborate in design sessions and code reviews and work with people from other cultures.
  • Full-time commitment in Warsaw, Poland, with hybrid remote and in-person work and at least 2–3 office days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of analytical data modeling and transforming raw data into analytics-ready datasets with clear downstream semantics.
  • Experience with Python, Django, DBT, Dagster, Luigi, or Clickhouse.
  • Experience with Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, or Nix.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, online analytical processing, metadata management, dimensional modeling, and relational database theory.
  • Experience with programming and/or mathematics competitions.
  • Product-oriented mindset.
  • Domain knowledge or interest in sustainable development goals, especially public health, agriculture, and assisting developing countries.
