Staff Software Engineer (AI Agents)
Senior • On-site
240,000 - 300,000 USD/yr
San Francisco, CA , +1
Traba is the AI operating layer for the industrial supply chain. We started in workforce—temp staffing, the biggest operational pain point for the manufacturing and logistics customers we serve—and used it to embed ourselves inside their daily operations and create a far better customer experience through technology. Now those same customers are pulling us beyond staffing into the broader operational workflows that run their facilities. That foundation gave us proprietary data from millions of shifts and deep enterprise relationships. By connecting to the systems running across every facility and activating the workers already on our platform to execute against them, we are building applied AI that drives productivity gains and transforms how the global supply chain operates at scale.
We are backed by Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, and General Catalyst.
You'll build the AI agents themselves—the harnesses, evals, orchestration, and model strategy the rest of Traba's product runs on. We're seeking an entrepreneurial Staff Agent Engineer to join as a founding member of the Agents team and lead the development of Traba's agentic platform.
About You
You've built agents that survived contact with reality. You've shipped agent systems into production at scale—designed the harness, picked the orchestration patterns, owned the evals, and lived with the on-call.
You're comfortable learning operational workflows and translating them into scalable technical architecture.
You raise the bar by shipping production-quality systems, integrating model providers, and designing evaluation infrastructure.
You care deeply about eval datasets, prompt versioning, observability, and clean abstractions.
Responsibilities
- Architect the agent platform end-to-end, including orchestration runtime, eval and observability stack, and integrations with WMS, TMS, and ERP systems.
- Own technical decisions around model strategy, harness design, retrieval and memory architecture, and tool/MCP interfaces.
- Work directly with customers and operators to translate operational workflows into scalable deployment patterns.
- Build evaluation infrastructure including datasets, graders, regression suites, and experimentation tooling.
- Hire and mentor engineers while setting engineering quality standards.
- Partner with leadership on the long-term platform roadmap.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience.
- 2+ years of hands-on production experience with LLM or agent-based systems.
- Strong expertise in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js.
- Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and PostgreSQL data models.
- Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Experience owning orchestration, retrieval, evals, observability, and cost/latency optimization for production agent systems.
- Experience leading 0-to-1 builds in early-stage environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Benefits
- Start-up equity
- Competitive salary
- 100% paid health, dental, and vision coverage
- Dinner provided via DoorDash
- Free DashPass and stocked kitchen for NY employees
- Commuter benefit
- Gympass benefit
- One Medical membership
- HSA via Optum
- Talkspace
- HealthAdvocate
- Teledoc Health
Salary Range
The compensation range for this position is between $240,000 and $300,000.

You'll partner with our CTO to make the core architectural calls on how agents are built, evaluated, and deployed at Traba; set the bar for quality and reliability; and bring the outside perspective on agent-building, FDE-style customer immersion, and data-product craft that this 0-to-1 product needs. 🏢 Summary: Full-stack engineering role focused on building and integrating AI-driven automation across staffing and operational workflows. The position involves developing scalable frontend and backend systems, applying LLMs and AI agents in production, and owning product features end to end in a fast-paced environment. 🗂️ Requirements: 5+ years of frontend and backend development experience, Experience with TypeScript, Experience with React or React Native, Experience with Node.js or Python, Strong knowledge of APIs, Experience with distributed systems, Experience with PostgreSQL, Experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ, Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or AI agents into production products, Experience shipping scalable products in early-stage environments 📃 Skills: TypeScript, React, ReactNative, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, Kafka, RabbitMQ, LLMs, APIs 🏢 Description: Traba is the AI operating layer for the industrial supply chain. But our edge is more than data: by connecting to the systems running across every facility and activating the workers already on our platform to execute against them, we are building applied AI that drives real productivity gains and transforms how the global supply chain operates at scale. We are backed by Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, and General Catalyst. You'll build Traba's product on top of AI agents—taking frontier models and existing agents and putting them to work across our staffing marketplace to automate the pipeline that sources, vets, matches, and places workers on millions of shifts. (Our AI Agents team builds the agent platform; you apply it everywhere it creates leverage.) This is a product-engineering role first, so you'll go where the priorities are—some quarters that's an agent that automates vetting or matching, others it's a payments flow or platform work. You'll partner with our CTO on architecture and roadmap, and build the platform the rest of the company runs on. About You: - An applier, not a researcher. You take frontier models and existing agents and wire them into real product across the stack—shipping reliable automation rather than owning the orchestration internals. - Voracious learner. You move easily between API design, UX, and deployment infrastructure. - Proven full-stack builder. You have a track record of shipping scalable, performant applications from frontend interfaces to backend distributed systems. You Will: - Apply existing agents and frontier models across the stack—worker app, business app, ops platform, marketplace—to automate vetting, matching, and fulfillment. - Lead frontend and backend development, mentoring other engineers. - Architect and build core systems—real-time matching, autonomous vetting pipelines, distributed systems, and APIs. - Own product surfaces end to end, partnering closely with product and design. You Have: - 5+ years across frontend and backend: TypeScript, React/React Native, and Node.js or Python. - Strong with APIs, distributed systems, PostgreSQL, and messaging (Kafka or RabbitMQ). - Hands-on experience integrating LLMs or agents into real product—prompting, tool wiring, evals. - A track record of shipping scalable products in fast, ambiguous, early-stage environments. Benefits: - Start-up equity - Competitive salary - 100% paid health, dental & vision coverage - Dinner provided via DoorDash, free DashPass & stocked kitchen for NY employees - Commuter benefit - Gympass benefit - One Medical Membership - HSA via Optum - Talkspace - HealthAdvocate - Teledoc Health Salary Range Details: The compensation range for this position is set between $200,000 and $240,000, reflecting market analysis and other relevant considerations. Equal Opportunity Employer: Traba is dedicated to promoting equal opportunity employment practices.
