Help Build the Future of the Electric Grid

The electric grid is changing faster than it has in decades. Utilities are facing increasing demand from electrification, data centers, and economic growth while also integrating new technologies such as battery storage, electric vehicles, and distributed energy resources. We are helping utilities solve these challenges through innovative programs that unlock flexible energy capacity and modernize how the grid is planned, operated, and optimized.

We are looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer to help shape the technical foundation of this transformation.

This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of utility operations, distributed energy resources, grid modernization, and emerging energy markets. You will partner directly with utility engineering, planning, operations, and regulatory teams to evaluate opportunities, design integration strategies, and support the deployment of distributed energy solutions at scale.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will serve as a key technical contributor supporting the design and implementation of distributed energy programs across multiple utility partners and markets.

  • Evaluate utility distribution systems and grid planning processes to identify opportunities for distributed energy deployment
  • Work directly with utility engineering, planning, and operations teams to assess grid needs and integration requirements
  • Support the technical design and deployment of distributed energy resources, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), EV charging infrastructure, and other emerging technologies
  • Develop communications, controls, and operational technology (OT) integration strategies that enable grid-connected assets to participate in utility and market programs
  • Analyze utility systems, grid constraints, hosting capacity, and operational requirements
  • Support interconnection planning and distributed energy integration efforts
  • Translate complex technical requirements into actionable recommendations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Commercialization, Program Management, and Project Delivery teams to bring innovative energy solutions from concept to deployment

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Shape industry transformation by helping utilities navigate significant shifts in the electric power industry
  • Gain exposure to multiple utility partners, regulatory environments, market structures, and distributed energy technologies
  • Design and implement programs that influence how energy resources are deployed and operated on the grid
  • Combine deep technical problem-solving with business, operational, and market considerations
  • Collaborate with utility executives, engineers, regulators, technology providers, and energy market participants

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, utility engineering, distribution planning, or distributed energy systems
  • Experience working with electric utilities, energy developers, engineering consulting firms, grid operators, or related organizations
  • Familiarity with distributed energy technologies such as battery storage, solar, EV charging, microgrids, or grid modernization technologies
  • Experience evaluating technical requirements, engineering tradeoffs, and system integration challenges
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred experience includes:

  • Distribution planning or interconnection engineering
  • Operational technology systems (DERMS, ADMS, SCADA, DMS/OMS)
  • Energy storage systems and grid integration
  • Wholesale energy markets and DER participation models
  • Utility communications protocols and controls architecture

Work Location

This is a remote-first position and may be based anywhere within the United States. Occasional travel may be required for team gatherings, utility partner meetings, and industry events.
