Cloud Storage Engineer

The Cloud Storage Engineer provisions, configures, and maintains secure, scalable cloud and on-premises storage environments supporting mission systems. This role ensures high performance, availability, and compliance with federal and DoD requirements across hybrid cloud infrastructures, while supporting modernization and optimization of enterprise storage solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Track and assess data recovery and disaster recovery capabilities across cloud-based and on-premises environments.
  • Plan, execute, and document disaster recovery failover activities within cloud infrastructures.
  • Maintain required levels of system uptime and performance for mission-critical applications.
  • Design, implement, and manage storage infrastructure components including storage arrays, fiber channel switches, and data protection solutions.
  • Evaluate, develop, and deploy file sharing solutions aligned with operational requirements.
  • Diagnose complex storage-related issues across cloud and on-premises platforms.
  • Perform storage utilization assessments, capacity forecasting, and performance optimization.
  • Create and maintain operational documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Analyze emerging storage technologies and recommend enhancements.
  • Provide cloud-focused security administration for storage and backup environments in compliance with DoD requirements.
  • Apply system security updates, patches, firmware upgrades, and vendor security configurations.
  • Implement and enforce DISA STIGs, IASE policies, and security controls.
  • Support audits, POA&M development, remediation tracking, and security task execution.
  • Manage security documentation, including PPSM reporting and PKI certificate lifecycle management.
  • Perform cloud failover and disaster recovery operations, including ISCP testing.
  • Execute disaster recovery testing and produce after-action reports.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments within NIPRNet and SIPRNet environments and apply hardening measures.
  • Analyze and remediate storage and backup vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain accurate cloud storage and backup documentation.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

Required Experience:

  • 3 years of professional engineering experience with enterprise-level storage and backup technologies.
  • 2 years of hands-on enterprise SAN management including Fiber Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE, HBA/CNA, storage controllers, LUN management, RAID, and NAS.
  • Experience with hierarchical storage system management and backup/restore services using Veritas NetBackup.
  • 2 years of experience working with DoD IT systems.

Required Certifications:

  • DoD 8570 IAT II Certification.
  • One of the following: AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional; Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert; NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Administrator; NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Architect; NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Implementation Engineer.

Required Security Clearance:

  • Current DoD Top Secret Clearance.

Work Location:

  • Onsite full-time at designated client locations (MI, OH, VA, UT, PA, CA).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • DoD 8570 IAT III Certification.

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Ability to work in a network closet and sit at a computer desk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 35–40 lbs to shoulder height.
