Independent Developer with Ruby (Office based)

10,000 - 14,000 PLN

What your days look like
You work in a small team of 2-5 people with regular, direct contact with clients or product owners. There is no project manager relaying messages. You hear the problem firsthand and you help figure out the solution.
About half of our projects are early-stage: building pilots fast, with validation in mind. If the idea proves to deliver value, we shift toward code quality and sustainability. The other half are established products that we iterate on, develop, and in some cases maintain.
Not every project is exciting. Some are challenging in ways that test your patience more than your skills. What stays consistent is the autonomy, the direct client contact, and the people you work with. Median tenure here is 7.9 years. People stay because the culture is honest and the autonomy is real.
What we are looking for
Someone strong in Ruby On Rails.
You can work independently on a client project without needing daily direction. You know when to ask for help and when to push forward.
You communicate clearly with non-technical people. Many of our clients are founders, domain experts, or product owners who do not speak code. Your ability to translate is as valuable as your ability to build.
You care about delivering value, not just shipping features. You understand that sometimes the right answer is to build less.
What we offer
Real autonomy. There are no managers. You decide how to build, when to push and when to ask for help, and you own the outcome. Decisions get made closest to the work, by the people doing it.
Full transparency. Finances, salaries, and the reasoning behind decisions are open to everyone. We do this because it leads to honest calls and trust, with each other and with clients. It is not a lever to angle for a bigger paycheck.
Peers, not a manager. The people you work with hire you, and that is how the company keeps running.
Room to do right by the client. Sometimes that means building less, or telling them to stop. We have worked this way since 2004, with Rails since its first release, and some client relationships have run well past a decade.
Paid time off (26 days) and private healthcare (Luxmed).
Good to have
AWS/devops experience
Node.js experience
Security awareness and experience
Proficiency with AI coding tools
Experience with early-stage products or validation-driven development

Product mastery You understand the engineering principles behind the best software ever made — and care deeply about the difference between good and great. Independent and obsessive by nature You go deep on everything you touch. You're a lifelong learner who can't help but care about quality. Being an ex-founder is a bonus. Limited frontend test coverage Supplemented by strong architecture and top talent, not bureaucratic QA processes. RECRUITMENT PROCESS Recruiter screening — a short intro call to align on basics. 1-on-1 with the engineering lead — a conversation about how you think and work. Technical challenge (~4 hours) — use AI, Google, or any resource you need. We care about the result, not the method. One-month paid contract — with the possibility to extend indefinitely. Honest, frequent feedback throughout so you always know where you stand. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary $100,000 – $150,000 depending on experience. Equity and profit share Core team members receive both equity and profit share as part of the compensation package. Unlimited PTO Use your own judgement — we won't count days. 🏢 Summary: Senior Software Engineer role focused on building high-quality UI/UX-driven products with a predominantly TypeScript stack, while also handling backend features when needed. The position offers high autonomy, ownership, and direct impact in a startup environment with modern frontend, backend, and ML technologies. Candidates receive equity, profit sharing, and the opportunity for rapid financial and professional growth. 🗂️ Requirements: Expert-level software engineering experience, Strong UI/UX implementation skills, Ability to build frontend applications with TypeScript and SvelteKit, Ability to implement backend CRUD features independently, Experience with NodeJS and relational databases, Understanding of DDD and CQRS principles, Experience working with PostgreSQL, Proficiency in building and consuming APIs, Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of technical decisions, Strong communication skills in collaborative engineering environments 📃 Skills: TypeScript, SvelteKit, Tailwind, DaisyUI, Playwright, NodeJS, Postgres, Fastify, Python, DDD, CQRS, SQL 🏢 Description: Pre-requisites You are familiar with About Curie About you Now that you know a bit about us, let’s talk about you. You’re an expert software engineer with outstanding attention to UI/UX. When you need to ship backend features, you don’t need someone else to step in. We don’t expect a backend ninja, but simple CRUD shouldn’t intimidate you. The definition of "expert" varies, so let’s narrow ours down: Elite communication: You set expectations accurately and you live up to them. No surprises. Deep resilience: Bugs, crises, or tough discussions - you have a massive buffer before stress impacts your output. You don't crack under pressure. No ego: We are here to win, not to manage insecurities. Product mastery: You understand the engineering principles behind the greatest software products ever made. If you’re an ex-founder, that’s a bonus. If not, we’ll make you one. Tech stack Heavily dominated with Typescript FE: SvelteKit, Tailwind, DaisyUI, a bit of Playwright; DDD & CQRS BE: NodeJS, Postgres, Fastify, and queues ML parts are mostly in Python The technologies we use aren’t set in stone. We may shift tools occasionally; we care far more about value than the technology behind it. Engineering culture Optional code reviews: We trust you. Merge when you're ready. If you want a second pair of eyes, just ask. Radical autonomy: We don’t second-guess your decisions. You own the call. High-bandwidth collaboration: We talk constantly, so everyone has context without needing formal gates to catch up. Direct feedback: When we do review code, comments are blunt, concise, and respectful. Ruthless efficiency: We aggressively adopt any tool (AI included) that increases leverage and speed. Limited test coverage on FE : We supplement that with good architecture and top talent. Recruitment process Complete our quick form Short ~30min 1on1 with Simon Technical Challenge (~4 hours) - Use AI, Google, or anything else you need. There are no rules - we care about the result, not the method. In-office meet & greet (1-2 hours) Following the initial phase, you’ll receive a one-month contract with a possibility to extend it indefinitely. We keep feedback honest and frequent, so you'll always know where you stand. Benefits 1. You’ll learn a lot Steep learning happens outside of your comfort zone. If you’re eager to learn, it means you’re hungry for uncertainty and discomfort. We only hire people like that. We promise to push you out of your comfort zone and give you access to extract as much knowledge as possible from the environment we’ve created. 2. You’ll get rich A startup environment often feels like eating glass. And if someone decides to eat glass with us, they deserve their slice of the pie. That’s why besides equity, we also have profit share that aims to supplement the base salary with bonus. We aim to get everyone up to 25k USD/mo ASAP, and then beyond. Perhaps this will happen Q1 of 2027, perhaps a bit later, but we don’t plan to hire many people, so this is really not unrealistic or hopeful. Unlike most other startups and scaleups, at Curie you do not have to wait for 10yrs for the equity to actually be worth something. We want to work with people who actually want to work hard, and that means getting everyone to be very financially independent as soon as possible. Earning your first $1M means enduring $1M worth of pain, but if you’re up for it, we’re here for you. We don’t hire people that aren’t obsessive, so the main question shifts from if to when. 3. You’ll own your slice of the pie You’ve probably heard stories from big companies about "extreme ownership" that turned out to be capped by a manager. We don’t have managers, you are the one responsible. You’ll have the entire team’s trust. The only limit is business reality; we want to earn money, not just be around. 4. Unlimited PTO We don’t count. People roughly average 20 days off + holidays, but if you need to stretch that beyond you can. Use your judgment. 5. You’ll have our back Our work philosophy is somewhere between a research lab, where 9-5 doesn’t work, but 996 doesn’t either and that of a sports team during championships. We know how important hard work and practice is between the tournaments, as well as how important rest is to avoid injuries. We consider our culture to be self-selecting, so if you’ll like meeting us during the interviews and the trial, chances are you’ll love it here. It should feel like a steal You’ll join a team of experienced venture builders to create the next massive success. In your first six months, you’ll learn more - while getting paid - than you have in the last few years combined. You will be trusted, respected, and heard. If it doesn’t feel like a steal for you, it’s probably not be what you’re looking for at the moment.
