Senior Automation QA Engineer at Orca Security

Senior • Remote

About On The Spot

We bring startups and disruptive tech companies to the local market, offering engineers the opportunity to work on innovative, high-impact products. Join us and become a member of their R&D team while we take care of employment, HR support, a benefits package, and an enjoyable work environment.

About the team

Orca Security is a cloud security platform built for engineers who care about visibility, context, and speed. Founded in 2019 by former Check Point leaders, Orca has raised $630M+ and reached unicorn status in 2021.

Orca's platform scans the entire cloud environment - AWS, Azure, GCP, and more - and surface what actually matters by prioritizing findings on real-world context: exposure, privilege, and potential impact. Cloud teams choose Orca because it deploys fast, scales with real infrastructure, and stays out of the way.

About the role

As a Senior Automation QA Engineer, you'll work across the full quality stack: framework architecture, test infrastructure on AWS / Azure / GCP and other cloud providers, AI tooling, and cross-team quality partnership - with the autonomy to shape how each one runs.

You’ll join a small, focused QA team that helps define how we test, and which modern tools (including AI) we adopt.

The role covers five main categories. Some weeks lean toward framework and code, others toward infrastructure or AI tooling - that variety is by design, and it's what makes the role interesting.

Responsibilities

  • Test automation across the stack - extend our Python automation suite, running in CI against AWS, Azure, and GCP scanners on every PR. You'll own framework decisions, choose tooling, and set the code-quality bar

  • Test infrastructure & CI/CD - own the pipelines, environments, and cloud accounts your tests run on. Integrate with monitoring, configure provider-specific assets, and resolve infrastructure issues end-to-end.

  • AI-assisted testing & tooling - help shape how QA at Orca uses AI: build and refine Claude Code agents and skills, evaluate emerging AI QA tools, and turn experiments into reusable team capability

  • Cross-team quality partnership - embed with product teams during design and code review, push testability upstream (shift-left in practice), and consult on quality decisions across multiple parallel product contexts

  • Quality leadership - partner with Product and Engineering on release-readiness, help your QA peers and partner product teams raise the quality bar through shared patterns, design reviews, and worked examples, and shape the standards and metrics (DORA-adapted, defect escape rate) the team operates by

Requirements

  • 5+ years in test automation, including production-grade Python

  • Hands-on experience with at least one major CI/CD tool - you can debug it, not just run it

  • Strong REST API testing background

  • Working experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • English at B2 or higher - you'll lead technical discussions across distributed teams

Nice to have

  • Playwright (preferred) or Selenium

  • GraphQL testing experience

  • TypeScript or JavaScript experience

  • Contract Testing experience

  • Prior experience in security, compliance, or infra-heavy domains

Why Orca QA specifically

  • Real ownership - senior engineers here shape framework direction, tooling, and quality standards, not just write tests

  • AI-forward team - we run an active AI adoption initiative (Claude Code agents, evaluation of AI QA tools). You'll help decide how QA at Orca uses these tools

Benefits

At On The Spot, we’re creating a workplace people would want to stay in: supportive, well-organized, and fair in terms of conditions and benefits.

We’ll share more about our benefit package during the interviews. In the meantime, you can always check our Glassdoor reviews.

Manage and mentor QA engineers while driving test infrastructure, device labs, AI-assisted testing, and user-experience quality across restaurant technology products. 🗂️ Requirements: 2+ years managing QA Engineering or software testing teams, Experience with mobile or Android test automation, Experience with web test automation, Ability to design and maintain automation frameworks, Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Experience with physical device testing and cloud device farms, Knowledge of visual regression and performance testing, Experience influencing developers to write automated tests, Fluent English communication skills 📃 Skills: Kotlin, React, TypeScript, Python, Django, Go, PostgreSQL, Docker, GitHub, Espresso, Appium, Playwright, Cypress, Android, BrowserStack, AWS, CI/CD, AI, LLM 🏢 Description: About SpotOn We’re not just building restaurant tech, we’re giving independent restaurants the tools to compete and win. And every solution is backed by real humans who actually give a sh*t about helping restaurants succeed. Named the #1 Restaurant POS by G2 (Fall 2025), based on ratings from real users Rated the top-rated point-of-sale (POS) for restaurants, bars, retail, and small businesses by Capterra users Awarded Great Places to Work and Built In’s Best Workplaces for multiple years running We move fast, care hard, and fight for independent restaurant operators to do what they love, and love doing it. If you’re looking to make an impact with heart and hustle, SpotOn is the place for you. At SpotOn, we don’t believe in "QA" as a safety net that catches bugs at the very end of a sprint. We believe in Confidence - the absolute certainty that the code we ship today empowers our merchants to run their businesses flawlessly tomorrow. As our QA Engineering Manager (internally recognized as our Confidence Manager ), you will lead the strategic vision and the team responsible for manual and test automation strategies across our entire product suite. You will guide our Automation Testing (AT) roadmap, design robust testing tools, and - most importantly - foster a modern software engineering culture where the mindset of writing automated tests is shared by every software engineer on the team. In this technical leadership role, you will act as an engineering coach, a user-experience advocate, and a hands-on strategist ensuring our testing velocity matches our ambitious product roadmap. Why This Role Matters Our software does not run in sterile, quiet offices. It runs in chaotic, high-heat, high-noise environments. Picture a Saturday night dinner rush: kitchen staff are rushing, servers are tapping screens with greasy or wet fingers, the Wi-Fi network is fluctuating, credit card readers are dropping connections, and the printer just ran out of paper mid-receipt. In this environment, staff have zero patience for sluggish UI transitions, and there is absolutely no room for error. High staff turnover in the US hospitality industry also means our systems must be incredibly intuitive—any UX friction leads to order mistakes and lost revenue. A system crash, a broken payment flow, or even a 3-second lag during peak hours doesn’t just mean a minor glitch; it means cold food, lost tips for hard-working servers, angry diners, and thousands of dollars in lost revenue for the restaurant owner. Your mission as our QA Engineering Manager is to build testing strategies resilient to these harsh, real-world conditions: Physical Hardware & Offline Resiliency: Ensure our systems are bulletproof during unexpected network dropouts (offline-mode reliability), hardware peripheral disconnects (printers, cash drawers, terminals), and rapid, high-frequency touch interactions. UX and Real-User Experience Focus: Champion end-to-end tests that measure actual user perceived latency, UI transitions, and complex checkout journeys rather than just validating API endpoints. Zero Downtime during Peak Hours: Guarantee that critical user flows—such as login, real-time menu updates, checkout, payments, and end-of-day reporting—are flawless across Web and Mobile (Android) platforms through robust regression coverage. Rapid Time-to-Market: Accelerate feature shipping by building automated, self-healing, and highly reliable CI/CD test feedback loops, removing manual testing bottlenecks. On a daily basis you will Drive a "Shift-Left" Quality Culture: Partner with Software Engineering Managers to embed quality engineering early in the software development lifecycle (SDLC). Foster a shared-ownership model where writing automated tests is a native, standard practice for all developers. Lead and Coach: Manage, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of QA Automation Engineers and SDETs. Conduct 1:1s, construct career progression paths, and foster a healthy, continuous-learning team dynamic. Own the Automation Strategy: Design, implement, and continuously refine our Test Automation Frameworks for Web and Android environments. Manage our Physical Device Testing Lab: Oversee the infrastructure for automated testing on physical Android stations, handheld POS devices, and payment peripherals, seamlessly blending physical test coverage with cloud emulator matrices. Leverage Modern AI Tools: Champion the integration of generative AI and LLM-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Claude, AI-driven visual regression analysis, self-healing test scripts) to dramatically accelerate automated test authoring and maintenance. Maintain the Testing Platform: Work closely with DevOps and Platform teams to maintain ultra-fast, reliable CI/CD pipelines (via GitHub Actions) that the engineering organization trusts implicitly. Define Quality Metrics: Track and expose actionable quality KPIs (such as user-perceived performance, automated test coverage, build execution speed, flaky test rates, and defect leakage) to drive data-informed tooling and engineering improvements. What skill are we looking for? QA Leadership Experience: 2+ years of experience managing, mentoring, and scaling high-performing QA Engineering or software testing teams. Strong Automation Background: A proven hands-on technical background in software test automation for Mobile/Android (e.g., Espresso, Appium, Kotlin automation) and/or Web (e.g., Playwright, Cypress). Strong experience in both is highly preferred. UX and User Experience Advocate: You don't just test functionality; you test usability. You possess deep empathy for the end-user (the server, the chef, the diner) and have experience setting up visual regression testing, performance budgets, and perceived latency benchmarks. Lab & Device Infrastructure Knowledge: Practical experience managing physical device testing matrices, cloud device farms (such as BrowserStack or AWS Device Farm), and connected IoT/POS hardware systems. The "Shared-Quality" Mindset: A proven track record of teaching, influencing, and persuading software engineers to write their own automated tests. You know how to make automated testing a low-friction process for developers. AI & Velocity Booster: Direct experience or a clear, pragmatic strategy for utilizing AI/LLM tools to accelerate test script generation, UI assertions, or test suite maintenance. Pragmatic Problem Solver: You prioritize real-world user outcomes and business impact over academic or technical purity. Excellent Communication: Fluent in English (written and verbal), with the ability to articulate quality-related challenges, environmental edge cases, and architectural trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Perfect candidate also has Familiarity with our Technical Stack: Kotlin, React (TypeScript), Python (Django), Go, PostgreSQL, Docker, GitHub Actions. Domain Experience: Experience in Fintech, Merchant Services, Point of Sale (POS), payment processing, or SaaS hospitality platforms. Here’s a bit about what we have to offer Competitive salary Training budget 3500 PLN gross per year. Access to e-learning platforms (O’Reilly). Fully paid private healthcare in LuxMed. Access to the Worksmile platform with a monthly top-up. Subsidized access to breakfast and lunch through the vending machine in Kraków office, and lunches in Gdańsk office once a week. Group English classes with a native speaker. New Macbook Pro, 4K monitors or whatever tools you need. Flexible working hours. New, modern, bright and comfortable office space in the city centre.
