SwingDev–a hippo company is the Polish branch of a fast-growing InsurTech product company – Hippo Insurance. We’re here to make home insurance smarter and more proactive, using tech to bring fresh solutions. We also create digital products that support our customers, always focusing on what really makes an impact.
Putting a lot of effort into hiring top-tier devs, designers, PMs, and QAs, is a proof that we care a lot about tech experience, the attitude, human approach, and what we could call „culture fit”.
„SwingDev is all about people” - yes, it may sound a bit cliche. But whether we're writing code or just hanging out, we know that people are at the heart of everything we do. We like to have a good time and keep things light, even when we're tackling big projects. We could brag about what’s making us special, but we’ve boiled it down to two key ingredients: mature, companionable people who, rather than compete, prefer to inspire and have each other’s backs; a culture of trust, empathy, and positivity that keeps us together, lets us interact as teammates and friends, and truly enjoy the ride.
As a Senior Back-end Engineer, you’ll join one of our core technical charter responsible for building the foundation of how quoting works at Hippo. You’ll help design and deliver the next-generation quoting platform, a critical system that powers the top of our sales funnel and directly influences business growth.
Your work will enable more accurate estimates for homes while supporting the company’s strategic focus on new home insurance – a key growth area. This isn’t a short-term initiative, it’s a high-impact, long-term investment at the heart of our product and revenue engine.
You’ll tackle complex product challenges using a modern tech stack, collaborate closely with a highly skilled team, and develop deep expertise in the home insurance domain. This is an opportunity to shape a mission-critical platform, drive measurable business outcomes, and grow as a technical expert along the way.
What will you do?
You'll work on building the next-generation quoting platform which will power the pre-bind experience for both internal and external partners ultimately driving the big rock of growth and profitability for the company.
You’ll partner closely with product, engineering, and business teams across multiple domains to drive meaningful projects from concept to delivery.
You'll architect and implement backends and their interactions with various data stores and other APIs (including 3rd party APIs).
You'll support reliable databases and APIs for real-time automated decision-making.
You’ll design, build, and maintain reliable software solutions that power critical parts of the business.
You’ll actively shape our software architecture, bringing your ideas and expertise into technical discussions.
You’ll work closely with product managers and QA engineers to ensure we deliver software of the highest quality.
You’ll balance maintaining existing systems with developing new features, ensuring stability while pushing innovation.
We might be a match if you…
Have strong hands-on software development experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js.
Possess solid, practical knowledge of at least one relational database system (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server).
Are a product-minded engineer with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for delivering impactful solutions.
Demonstrate technical excellence, either individually or by elevating the team around you.
Understand and apply software development best practices, from clean code and testing to long-term maintainability and security.
Have experience with microservices, system design patterns, and actively contribute to architecture and design decisions.
Communicate effectively in writing and speech, with a strong command of English and Polish, and collaborate well with product, analytics, and business teams.
Actively seek feedback and mentorship to support your continuous growth.
Are available to work in the afternoon hours, including occasional evening meetings due to U.S. time zone collaboration (we respect work-life balance but prioritize effective communication)
