Description

Provide pre-operative/procedural and post-anesthesia recovery nursing care. Perform assessments, verify consent and H&P, start IV fluids, assist with peripheral nerve blocks, ensure pre-op testing is complete, confirm surgical site readiness, administer medications as ordered, and monitor patients after anesthesia/sedation. Maintain current standards, document all care phases accurately in the EHR, and deliver clear pre-op and discharge teaching to patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-operative/procedural nursing assessment, consent and H&P validations

• Start IV fluids (including venipuncture) and assist with peripheral nerve blocks

• Confirm labs and other pre-op testing are completed and communicated

• Verify surgical sites are prepared and marked

• Administer medications per established policies and provider orders

• Provide preoperative teaching; review discharge instructions verbally and in writing

• Monitor level of consciousness and observe for side effects of residual anesthesia medications

• Ensure comprehensive, timely, accurate electronic health record documentation

• Provide constructive peer feedback and support colleagues through knowledge sharing

• Contribute to interdisciplinary discussions and evidence-based practice decisions
