Description

The role requires an experienced Senior Database Administrator with deep MySQL knowledge to own the development, maintenance, and optimization of relational databases running on AWS RDS. The environment spans multiple MySQL and Oracle instances across two AWS regions, with frequent releases, high volumes of requests, and ongoing change. Current challenges include upgrading MySQL to 8.0, moving Database CI/CD processes to GitHub Actions, and optimizing SQL queries on large tables.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain MySQL and Oracle database structures

• Administer databases on AWS RDS with focus on high availability, performance, and security

• Design and implement backup and data restoration strategies

• Automate scaling, monitoring, and database recovery processes

• Optimize SQL queries with developer teams

• Perform code review for SQL queries and scripts

• Monitor, analyze, and tune database performance

• Run security audits and ensure compliance with required standards

• Create and maintain technical documentation

• Participate in architecture discussions and infrastructure decisions

Requirements

• Very good knowledge of MySQL and experience in database structure design

• Experience with Oracle databases

• Practical AWS experience, especially Amazon RDS

• Experience with SQL code reviews and query optimization

• Ability to create scripts and automate processes using Bash, Python, or similar tools

• Very good English

• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation

• Ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines
