Description

Join a small team building an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server and agentic tooling that helps autonomous agents reliably discover and call thousands of web-based tools. You’ll harden the protocol and authorization, shape the agent runtime and tool surface, and build evals that convert production traces into CI tests. The role offers end-to-end ownership focused on robustness in a fast-changing protocol.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the MCP server that turns large numbers of Actors into agent-callable tools

• Keep the server ahead of frequent protocol changes (stateless transports, authorization hardening, tool discovery)

• Shape the agent behind Apify AI: runtime it runs on, tools it reaches, and end-to-end task rough edges

• Enable autonomous agents to discover and pay for Apify tools

• Build evaluation systems that turn production traces into tests, catch regressions in CI, and measure whether changes improve or worsen outcomes

Requirements

• 5+ years building real software with backend experience in Node.js/TypeScript or Python

• Experience building on top of LLMs with firsthand knowledge of tool-calling failures, context growth, and agent mistakes

• Curious and self-directed; comfortable with loosely defined problems and rapid field changes

• Use the Apify platform or be motivated to do so

• Good English communication skills
