Description

The Cloud FinOps Engineer role enables cost-efficient, scalable, and well-governed cloud usage across BMS’s multi-cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) by applying FinOps principles through technology, automation, and platform design. You will embed cost visibility, optimization, and governance into cloud architectures, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and operational workflows. The role builds and operates solutions for cost allocation, tagging enforcement, anomaly detection, optimization insights, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day cloud cost and usage analysis across AWS, Azure, and GCP (tagging enforcement, anomaly detection, optimization follow-up)

• Operate and enhance cloud cost observability (dashboards, scorecards, unit-economics views, usage trends)

• Investigate cost spikes and anomalies by correlating architecture, utilization, and operational events

• Identify gaps in cost governance processes and implement technical improvements

• Serve as a technical point of contact for cloud consumers and application teams; translate cost/utilization patterns into engineering guidance

• Facilitate cloud consumption and optimization reviews; influence design choices for scalability, reliability, and cost

• Drive engineering-led FinOps best practices into provisioning, deployment, and runtime operations

• Provide Finance with reliable cloud cost data, tooling, and automation while keeping ownership within IT

• Independently analyze cloud usage to identify waste and optimization opportunities (rightsizing, storage tiering/lifecycle, Kubernetes/container drivers, data transfer/networking)

• Lead small-to-medium engineering-driven optimization initiatives with measurable impact

• Support commitment strategies (Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, CUDs) via data analysis and tooling

• Promote continuous, automated optimization instead of reactive cost reduction

• Build automation and tooling using Python for FinOps operations

• Develop AWS solutions (Lambda, databases RDS/DynamoDB/Redshift, Step Functions)

• Create and manage CloudFormation templates and enforce infrastructure-as-code standards

• Integrate cost controls, tagging validation, and reporting into CI/CD pipelines

• Automate cost anomaly reporting, scheduled spend/usage analysis, and data ingestion from cloud billing systems

• (Optional) Contribute to Auto Remediation Frameworks to correct inefficient or non-compliant configurations

• Apply IAM knowledge (role-based access) to support secure and accountable cloud usage; ensure auditable cost attribution/ownership

• Embed FinOps controls into platform standards and provide system-generated evidence/traceability for compliance

• Collaborate across SRE, Security, Network, Engineering, Product, and Procurement to integrate cost considerations into technical decisions

• Represent FinOps engineering on cross-functional initiatives and communicate complex concepts to technical and leadership audiences
