Quick Facts

  • Role: Staff DevOps Engineer II (DbOps)
  • Focus: Database reliability, performance, observability, and infrastructure automation

Description

You will bridge schema design, SRE practices, and infrastructure automation to optimize production database query performance, architecture, and scalability. You’ll take ownership of database health—proactively addressing scaling bottlenecks, sharding, and replication topologies—while improving observability and disaster recovery for core data systems. You’ll also build cloud infrastructure and support migrations and major engine upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Own observability, monitoring, and alerting for production database clusters and replication topologies
  • Optimize database engine configurations for performance, stability, compliance, and security
  • Design scalable database schemas and storage architectures for high-growth workloads
  • Implement data scaling strategies: sharding, partitioning, and high-availability clustering
  • Triage critical database incidents and create preventative long-term engineering solutions
  • Lead disaster recovery testing, data classification, and major engine upgrades
  • Build cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code to automate deployment pipelines and environments
  • Collaborate on migrations, schema reviews, and query optimization with software engineering teams
  • Participate in architecture reviews and provide authoritative database engineering input
  • Automate operational tasks and third-party API integrations using scripting languages

Requirements

  • 5+ years hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operating relational databases in production
  • 3+ years in DevOps, SRE, or software engineering
  • Production-scale expertise with relational technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including backups, replication topologies, indexing, and partitioning
  • Advanced knowledge of database architecture, data modeling, query optimization, and high-availability/backup & recovery
  • Experience building cloud infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, CDK) in public cloud (AWS)
  • Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Golang) for automation and integrations
  • Operational familiarity with Linux, containerization (Docker), and orchestrators (Kubernetes, ECS)
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, TravisCI, CircleCI, Jenkins)
  • Experience deploying monitoring/observability platforms (Datadog, New Relic)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/IT or equivalent work experience

Benefits

  • Paid holidays and flexible scheduled time off
  • Innovation-focused culture with room for big ideas
  • MacBook setup plus a $500 workspace stipend
  • CET hours to support a balanced schedule (for the Poland-based team)
  • Equity in a rapidly growing startup backed by top-tier VCs
