Description

Lead the backend and infrastructure work to transfer a productive Laravel monolith into a clean, service-oriented design. You will build and maintain REST APIs, CI/CD, monitoring, and the cloud runtime while ensuring safe refactoring and test coverage. You’ll collaborate with the Tech Lead on concepts, designs, and backend/API responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Transfer a productive Laravel monolith to a clean service architecture
• Work with the Tech Lead on concepts and design decisions
• Focus on backend APIs, infrastructure, and cloud environment
• Contribute to migrations from legacy systems to modern architectures
• Ensure code quality and implement tests
• Refactor in production without disrupting service
• Own infrastructure components and their day-to-day care

Requirements

• 5+ years of PHP, including at least 3 years with current Laravel versions
• Experience migrating a monolith to a service-oriented architecture
• Solid REST API design skills (API-first, versioning, authentication, error handling)
• Domain-Driven Design or comparable patterns
• Deep MariaDB/MySQL knowledge, including performance tuning
• Experience with Hetzner Cloud or similar infrastructure as a real cloud environment
• Practical Docker, GitLab CI/CD, Linux administration, and reverse proxy experience
• Monitoring, alerting, and log aggregation experience
• Good judgment on when microservices make sense vs when a monolith is better
• High standards for testing and code quality
