DevOps & Technology Controls Engineer

Senior • On-site

Krakow, MA, Poland

We’re looking for skilled individuals to join the DOME Payments Team, working in a mission-critical environment across a broad range of technologies—from vendor products to in-house developed microservices. With ever-increasing real-time customer demands, the key business drivers are platform availability and service stability.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can work autonomously, bring order to complexity, and drive delivery while keeping risk under control, including vulnerability and patching activities. As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll dedicate your time to both Run the Bank and Change the Bank activities—supporting projects that deliver new services, integrations, and enhancements. Support spans mainly EU and UK services and integration layers.

Day-to-day responsibilities include pipeline support, consultancy, IT service oversight, guidance to L1 support teams, Service Management, Quality Assurance, security patching, Change Management, design, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day reliability, change delivery, and continuous improvement of a complex SEPA payments technology estate spanning IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS), IBM MQ, Oracle, SFTP integrations, APIs, and microservices running on Kubernetes.
  • Build and support CI/CD pipelines; deliver orchestration solutions; support and maintain payment services; perform service oversight and service-management activities.
  • Manage incidents end-to-end: assess impact, coordinate teams, keep stakeholders updated, restore service quickly, and complete root-cause reviews with tracked actions.
  • Maintain clear support guides (runbooks), on-call readiness, and service-health monitoring with effective alerts and dashboards.
  • Support IBM MQ and IBM WAS to ensure reliable connectivity and performance, including TLS security, configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting message-flow issues.
  • Support application connectivity to Oracle, working with DBAs on performance, connection management, and resilience (HA/DR).
  • Manage secure SFTP integrations, including keys/certificates, automated transfers, monitoring, and operational controls.
  • Ensure file, batch, and message-based processing meets agreed SLAs, with strong traceability and audit readiness.
  • Operate microservices on Kubernetes, covering deployments, scaling, configuration, secrets, ingress, observability, and service mesh where used.
  • Improve CI/CD and release practices across WAS-based applications and Kubernetes workloads.
  • Work with API and engineering teams to standardise operational best practices, including health checks, SLOs, logging, metrics, and tracing.
  • Automate repeatable tasks—provisioning, deployments, drift checks, patching, and validation—using scripting and/or Infrastructure as Code.
  • Strengthen operational maturity through consistent standards, high-quality documentation, and SRE-style practices, including SLOs, error budgets, and blameless post-incident reviews.
  • Coordinate changes across teams and components, balancing delivery speed with stability and payments regulatory expectations.
  • Communicate status, risks, dependencies, and timelines clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Identify blockers early, drive resolution, and keep work progressing.
  • Support ITSO activities to drive service health, sustainability, and operational readiness, ensuring service governance, clear ownership, effective incident/problem follow-up, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and manage operational and technology risks; maintain robust controls, including audit-ready evidence; support risk assessments; and ensure compliance with required standards and change processes.
  • Coordinate delivery and operational priorities; mentor and support colleagues; set sound engineering and operational practices; and partner with stakeholders across projects, support teams, and vendors.
  • Work closely with stakeholders located globally.

Skills & Experience We Require

  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong hands-on DevOps/Platform Engineering experience in a regulated, high-availability environment; payments or financial-services experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience running workloads on Kubernetes, including deployments, scaling, configuration, secrets, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong operational knowledge of Oracle from an application/platform perspective, including connectivity, performance triage, HA/DR concepts, and DBA collaboration.
  • Experience in SQL and Linux.
  • CI/CD and automation capability, including Git-based workflows, Bash or Python scripting; configuration management and Infrastructure as Code are preferred.
  • Strong IBM MQ support and troubleshooting experience, including TLS security and performance.
  • Strong production support experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS).
  • Experience managing SFTP integrations securely and at scale, including keys/certificates, automation, and monitoring.
  • Strong observability and troubleshooting skills across logs, metrics, traces, performance tuning, and capacity.
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies and tools, including Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to prioritise, decide, and deliver with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisation and management skills, with the ability to handle competing priorities and drive actions to closure.

Optional / Nice to Have

  • Payments experience, such as SEPA.
  • Experience with API gateways/management, service mesh, container security, and vulnerability management.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes, including incident, problem, and change management, and operational governance.
  • Experience with DR testing, resilience engineering, and chaos/verification testing.

Benefits

  • Private medical care.
  • Multisport card / MyBenefit system.
  • Life insurance.
