Senior Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Engineer within the Web app team, you will oversee advanced engineering tasks, lead application development, and guide best practices. The role requires deep full-stack expertise, innovation, and the ability to solve intricate technical challenges.

The ideal candidate excels in React-based front-end and Python API development, with a strong emphasis on building scalable, efficient web applications using service-oriented architecture. You will help drive the technical excellence and success of the engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage complex software engineering tasks within the Web team, from conception to completion.
• Architect and develop Python RESTful APIs and React/Remix-based websites, promoting reusable integrations and functionality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues for the NBA Control Tower Portal, developing cohesive and actionable plans to overcome technical challenges.
• Develop and enforce engineering best practices and standards with a DevOps-first mindset, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Identify non-functional requirements and promote good practices in accessibility, performance, and security; guide team members in best practice.
• Liaise with product owners to transform visionary ideas into innovative technical solutions.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholder teams to ensure project alignment and quality.

Qualifications and skills

Essential

• Proven experience leading Full Stack development or in a similar role, with a strong track record of successful project delivery.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, including ES6+ syntax, and its application in modern web development.
• Extensive experience developing dynamic, interactive front-end applications with React, preferably using Remix.
• Strong proficiency in Python and RESTful API development.
• Solid knowledge of database systems, including MongoDB and standard SQL.
• Experience with Azure, specifically Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), for container-based application deployment and scalability.
• Passion for clean, maintainable, highly testable code; test-driven development experience, including unit testing with Vitest and Pytest. Exposure to functional testing with Playwright is beneficial.
• Extensive experience and comprehensive understanding of modern DevSecOps technologies, specifically GitHub version control, CI/CD workflows with GitHub Actions, and Kubernetes container deployment using GitOps via ArgoCD.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical business stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred

• Azure Developer certification, specifically AZ-204.
• Exposure to Databricks.
• Working knowledge of Scrum-based Agile development.
