Senior Backend Python Engineer

You’ll join the team that collects pricing and promotional-discount data for video games across major digital storefronts and integrates with each platform to set and reconcile discounts. Much of the work is building the FastAPI services and data jobs behind these integrations. This is a backend Python role with a real DevOps/infrastructure component.

Requirements

• Strong Python skills: modern type-hinted code, Pydantic v2, and async/await.
• Comfort with SQLAlchemy and relational databases, including PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or another SQL database.
• FastAPI or an equivalent modern Python web framework in production.
• Solid DevOps fundamentals, including Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure.
• Kubernetes knowledge: pods, replicas, deployments, services, kubectl, and operating a running cluster.
• Working Azure knowledge, including identity/service principals, secrets, storage, or Service Bus.
• Git-based workflow discipline: small reviewed merge requests, linters and type checks as gates, and reliable tests using uv, ruff, mypy, pytest, or equivalents.
• Observability experience with Elastic/Kibana, Sentry, APM, or similar tools; comfortable debugging from logs and traces.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Clear written communication and open, documented collaboration through GitLab merge requests, ADRs, and Jira.

Preferred Qualifications

• Terraform and Infrastructure as Code experience; Terragrunt is a plus.
• Networking and security exposure, including FortiGate, VPN, and DNS.
• Knowledge of architectural patterns such as leader election, publisher-subscriber, and circuit breaker.
• Data-pipeline orchestration experience.
• Web scraping at scale with Playwright, headless browsers, proxies, and anti-bot constraints.
• Vue 3 and TypeScript experience. Frontend work is optional and a bonus, not a requirement.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain typed, async FastAPI services backed by PostgreSQL and MSSQL using SQLAlchemy 2.x and Alembic.
• Extend storefront integrations and diagnose issues when a platform changes its API or authentication flow.
• Write scheduled data jobs using Airflow or containerized jobs to scrape, backfill, and reconcile discount and pricing data.
• Deliver work end to end: code, GitLab CI, Kubernetes (AKS), monitoring through Elastic/Kibana and Sentry, and production fixes.
• Work daily with Azure, including service principals/Entra authentication, Key Vault secrets, and Blob Storage.
• Make small, safe changes to Terraform infrastructure and shared platform libraries.
• Resolve production issues and collaborate with internal teams on features for internal tools.
