Senior Cloud and Containerization Engineer (GKE)

A platform that has been in production for over two decades is moving off virtual machines and onto Google Kubernetes Engine. This is not simply a packaging exercise.

The platform is extensible at runtime: users deploy their own plugins, rules, and domain extensions while it runs. What executes inside a container is therefore not fully known when the image is built. Reconciling this with immutable images is the central open design question of the migration.

Responsibilities

You work on the application side of the migration. A dedicated platform team operates the Kubernetes and GKE infrastructure, so this is not a cluster administration role and does not include platform on-call duty.

You prepare application workloads to run on GKE, build and maintain the delivery pipelines behind them, and solve migration problems that emerge as real traffic moves. This is not a lift-and-shift migration: parts of the system predate the cloud-native tooling replacing them, including an in-house process scheduler that is being retired, so some components will be redesigned rather than wrapped.

Job requirements

There is no nice-to-have tier. Every item is required and will be assessed during the technical interview.

• Hands-on GCP and GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine)
• Docker
• Terraform
• Ansible
• CI/CD, with Jenkins and GitHub Actions
• Python
• Core Java and Spring Boot, sufficient to read and work with application code
• 7+ years of commercial experience
• Working-level English for a team split across Europe and India
