Java Cloud Engineer

Work arrangement: Hybrid — minimum 2 days/week onsite presence in Brussels

About the role

Join a multidisciplinary IT team working on modern, cloud-native applications across customer-facing platforms, API backends, and integration layers. The role combines Java backend development, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps, with responsibility for delivering services from development through deployment and operation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, document, and release Java-based features and API services.
  • Build scalable and secure microservices using Java 17–21 and Spring Boot 3.x.
  • Design and implement cloud-native solutions on Azure or AWS.
  • Provision and manage infrastructure using Terraform or equivalent IaC tools.
  • Containerize applications with Docker and deploy them on Kubernetes.
  • Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines using Azure Pipelines or GitLab CI/CD.
  • Implement REST APIs and event-driven integrations.
  • Contribute to batch-processing solutions and messaging architectures.
  • Investigate and resolve incidents in collaboration with functional teams.
  • Participate in a rotating weekly on-call/guard duty.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and continuously improve performance, reliability, and security.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of professional Java development experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java 17+ / Java EE, Spring Boot 3.x, microservices architecture, REST APIs, Docker and Kubernetes, Azure, AWS, or another major cloud platform, Terraform or equivalent Infrastructure-as-Code tools, CI/CD with Azure Pipelines or GitLab CI/CD, JUnit and automated testing, and relational databases.
  • Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, Azure Service Bus, or AWS SQS/SNS.
  • Fluent in French or Dutch, with excellent English proficiency.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Spring Batch.
  • Experience with ELK, ArgoCD, Keycloak, Kong, or JFrog.
