Lead Software Engineer

The NDS Technologies team is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to grow a map compilation product that creates high-definition live maps for precise navigation in self-driving cars.

As part of the NDS team, you will work on capturing real-world data, reflecting it in the reality index, and delivering NDS map data to vehicles. The team uses Agile practices and collaborates with teams and automotive customers to deliver digital maps in NDS formats for autonomous-driving use cases.

The role owns and evolves Java-based NDS/NDS.Live compiler toolchains and validation frameworks. You will build systems that ensure map products meet high quality standards for automotive OEMs and system integrators. The development team is located in Poland, with leadership in Germany.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop well-crafted software that steadily adds business value.
• Engage with internal and external customers on requirements, change requests, and incidents to define application specifications.
• Own one or more software-architecture components.
• Lead an Agile team, share knowledge, and communicate proactively.
• Drive and improve engineering practices, including Agile, coding, and verification.
• Define complex cross-subsystem and cross-product designs for implementation.
• Define the technical vision and roadmap for the compiler and validation stack.
• Make key technical decisions on compilation-pipeline performance, scalability, and correctness.
• Mentor and grow a software engineering team, fostering engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• Backend application development experience with Java/Scala.
• Solid programming practices and a focus on reusable, flexible, reliable code.
• Proven ability to technically lead and mentor teams of 4–8 engineers.
• Self-motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented team player with an Agile mindset.
• Strong quality mindset, including unit testing, performance testing, and writing testable code.
• Infrastructure experience with Maven/SBT, Git/Gerrit, Apache Spark, AWS, and Linux.
• Very good written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with map data, such as NDS, GIS, RDF, or GDF.
• Experience with data-transformation scripting or ETL.
• Experience with schema-driven development, such as Zserio, Protobuf, FlatBuffers, or similar serialization frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process assessment model.
