Senior Platform Engineer (RedHat and Kubernetes)

The On-premise Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for:

  • Design and implementation of local CI/CD pipelines within dedicated on-premise environments
  • Development and operation of common platform services centered on Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes
  • Full-stack ownership of physical and virtual layers, including networking, storage, and compute

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end deployment of Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes clusters on private hardware
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipelines to automate server provisioning, OS hardening, and application deployment
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex networking, storage, or container-orchestration issues
  • Implement security best practices, including CIS hardening and SELinux, for air-gapped or highly secure on-premise environments
  • Optimize Linux kernel parameters and network configurations for high-throughput, low-latency Public Safety applications
  • Provide technical guidance and conduct rigorous code and configuration reviews for the engineering team

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience in Systems Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), with a heavy focus on on-premise environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Proven experience deploying and maintaining production-grade Kubernetes or Red Hat OpenShift clusters on bare-metal or virtualized private hardware
  • Strong command of Linux internals, including storage, networking, and process management, with the ability to debug issues across the stack
  • Hands-on data center networking experience, including switching, routing, load balancing, and firewall rule implementation
  • Experience automating manual operational tasks using Python, Ansible, or similar tools
  • Ability to work in an agile environment and handle the high-pressure demands of mission-critical Public Safety systems
  • Strong communication skills, including documenting complex technical architectures and mentoring junior team members
  • Curiosity, interest in learning, self-motivation, and ability to maintain focus in a pressured environment

Primary Skills (Must-Have)

  • Orchestration: Expert-level Red Hat OpenShift (OCP) and Kubernetes
  • Operating Systems: Advanced Linux administration, preferably RHEL
  • Networking: L3/L4 networking, BGP, load balancing with NGINX or HAProxy
  • Automation: Ansible, Python, and Shell scripting
  • Version Control: Git and GitOps with ArgoCD or Flux

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Storage: Software-defined storage with Ceph, Rook, or ODF
  • Virtualization: VMware vSphere or KVM management
  • Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack
  • Certifications: CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) or RHCE
  • Security: CIS hardening and STIG compliance in air-gapped environments
