Senior Business Intelligence (Power BI) Engineer

Opportunity Overview

As a Senior Power BI Engineer, you will work on an enterprise-scale BI solution for a Fortune 500 client, building and maintaining large, complex semantic models that support demanding analytical requirements across the organization. This is not a dashboard-building role; the core focus is semantic model depth, including RLS, perspectives, model internals, performance, and governance at enterprise scale.

You will also work with Databricks as a data platform and Git-based release management, operating across BI, data, and DevOps to own the full BI solution lifecycle from the data layer to the deployment pipeline. The role involves collaboration with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders, with opportunities to contribute to architecture decisions, standards, documentation, and best practices.

Your Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain large-scale Power BI semantic models with attention to performance, correctness, and maintainability.
• Implement advanced model features, including Row-Level Security (RLS), perspectives, calculation groups, and model internals optimization.
• Work with Databricks as the underlying data platform, including querying, integration, and data preparation for BI consumption.
• Manage Power BI solutions through Git, including version control, CI/CD pipelines, automated branching and merging strategies, and release management across environments.
• Apply branching models appropriate to enterprise BI delivery workflows.
• Work within Azure cloud infrastructure to support deployment, access management, and BI asset integration.
• Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to translate complex analytical requirements into robust semantic-layer solutions.
• Contribute to standards, documentation, and best practices for BI development and release processes.
• Leverage AI tools in day-to-day work to improve productivity and output quality.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of commercial Power BI experience in enterprise environments, with large semantic models, complex requirements, and high-stakes delivery.
• Deep, hands-on Power BI expertise in semantic model design and optimization, DAX, RLS, perspectives, and model internals.
• Proven experience building and maintaining very large semantic models with demanding performance and governance requirements.
• Solid Databricks experience, with confidence working with data at the platform level.
• Mature Git practices in large projects, including CI/CD pipelines, release management, automated branching and merging, and branching-model awareness such as GitFlow or trunk-based development.
• General Azure knowledge relevant to BI and data-platform delivery.
• A hybrid BI, data, and DevOps mindset covering the full solution lifecycle beyond the report layer.
• Strong communication skills for working with technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Fluent English for effective collaboration across international teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Power BI Deployment Pipelines and XMLA endpoints.
• Familiarity with Tabular Editor or similar model-authoring tools.
• Knowledge of dataflow and lakehouse patterns in the Microsoft Fabric and Power BI ecosystem.
• Experience with Azure DevOps for BI-specific pipelines.
• Exposure to dbt or similar data-transformation tooling upstream of the semantic layer.
