Senior Java Developer

Senior • Remote

25,000 - 28,000 PLN/mo

Lillehammer, IN, Norway

Who We're Looking For

A senior Java engineer who owns systems end to end and uses AI tooling as a professional instrument.

What You'll Work On

An industrial welding data platform for a Nordic manufacturer of welding equipment. The system collects quality data from welding machines on production lines and turns it into traceable, auditable proof of weld quality.

It is a mature product with a real installed base, a substantial Java estate, and a long roadmap. You will join the product team as a full member, with the same routines, planning, and ownership as the in-house engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Extend and modernize the Java backend: Java, WildFly, Hibernate/JPA, Oracle, and SQL Server, with containerized messaging and integration layers.
  • Own features end to end, from design conversations through production behavior.
  • Set the standard for AI-assisted development by selecting effective workflows, demonstrating what works, and raising the bar for future team members.
  • Potential path into a lead role as the team grows.

Requirements

  • Expert-level Java experience on critical systems.
  • Deep WildFly experience, or experience operating another JEE application server.
  • Strong Hibernate/JPA ORM experience, including scaling challenges.
  • Production experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Comfort with containers, VMs, and the infrastructure running the application.
  • Genuine fluency with AI coding tooling, agents, and spec-driven workflows, including the judgment to identify incorrect model output.
  • Professional spoken and written English for daily communication with Nordic colleagues.
  • Proactive, self-directed approach to moving work forward.

Nice to Have

  • Production experience with RabbitMQ or another message broker.
  • Experience mentoring engineers or raising the engineering bar within a team.
  • Industrial, manufacturing, or IoT domain background.
  • Practical welding experience.

What We Offer

  • 25–28k PLN/month on B2B terms, with alternative contract options.
  • Fully remote, permanent work arrangement.
  • Long-term engagement on a multi-year product.
  • One to two annual trips to Finland or Norway to work with the team in person.
  • Equipment, licenses, and AI tooling covered.
  • A short process: an introductory call, a technical conversation, and a meeting with the product team; no take-home assignments.
