Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant to support providers in managing medical documentation, patient intake, and clinical workflows in the La Jolla office. Responsibilities include documenting patient visits, preparing summaries and referral letters, and maintaining accurate medical records.

This is a non-exempt hourly role working Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet and prepare patients for examinations
• Assist with physical exams and provider instructions
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA
• Assist with patient education, scheduling, insurance documentation, and inquiries
• Document patient encounters, histories, diagnoses, and treatment plans in real time
• Use proper medical terminology, abbreviations, and coding in documentation
• Manage EHR workflows and ensure timely completion of provider notes
• Assist with prior authorizations when needed
• Administer allergy/immunotherapy injections and monitor patient responses
• Assist with skin testing, patch testing, and pulmonary function testing
• Calibrate and operate pulmonary function testing equipment
• Maintain clean and stocked exam and injection rooms
• Perform equipment sterilization and ensure OSHA and HIPAA compliance

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one year of relevant experience
• Medical assistant certification or training preferred (CMA, RMA, or similar)
• BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
• Strong computer literacy and typing skills
• Experience using EHR systems and medical software
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities
• Strong attention to detail and time management
• Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance

Preferred Qualifications

• Students pursuing healthcare careers
• College-level education in medical or health-related fields
• Advanced medical terminology knowledge
• Spanish fluency preferred
• Advanced typing and computer proficiency
• Availability commitment of two or more years preferred

Compensation

The hourly compensation range for this position is $21.50-$25.00/hour, depending on skills, education, and experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and move throughout the clinic for extended periods
• Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
• Frequent hand and finger use for patient care and equipment operation
• Normal or corrected vision and hearing
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
