Staff Motion Planning Engineer - Trajectory Generation

Mission Summary
On the Motion team, you will serve as a technical leader, leveraging expertise in motion planning, robotics, and software development to architect and advance the capabilities of production-ready autonomous vehicles. This role focuses on innovative research, systemic design processes, and implementation of performance-critical algorithms enabling safe, comfortable, and intuitive autonomous vehicle behaviors.

Technical Scope
- Architect state-of-the-art motion planning and trajectory optimization algorithms for safe and comfortable vehicle motion.
- Design scalable and robust software architectures integrating optimal control techniques and motion planning algorithms.
- Lead architectural code and design reviews using C++ across cross-functional technologies and services.
- Define modern development toolchains including testing frameworks, high-fidelity simulation, and continuous integration systems.
Role Responsibilities
- Define and communicate complex system trade-offs and technical concepts to engineering peers and leadership.
- Lead architectural collaboration with teams focused on behavior planning, prediction, and vehicle control.
- Create technical roadmaps and project proposals spanning multiple safety-critical subsystems.
- Mentor engineering team members and foster a culture of rigorous research and product-focused engineering.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of production-grade C++ software development experience in real-time, low-latency, or safety-critical applications.
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience leading large-scale technical initiatives through production implementation.
- Expertise in Model Predictive Control (MPC), motion planning architectures, planning under uncertainty, vehicle dynamics/control, and closed-loop simulation.
- Strong understanding of non-linear and numerical optimization methods, including interior point methods and sequential quadratic programming.
- Experience with optimization solvers such as IPOPT, Gurobi, OSQP, and CasADi in embedded real-time environments.
- Python experience for simulation, data analysis, or rapid prototyping is considered a plus.
Work Arrangement
- Hybrid work schedule with office collaboration in Boston, Pittsburgh, or Las Vegas, or fully remote.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $205,000—$272,500 USD.
- Additional compensation may include bonus or company equity.
