About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Process Development Engineer to join our Pyrolysis Test Engineering team. Reporting to the Director of Pyrolysis, you will lead the development and scale-up of next-generation biomass conversion processes from pilot testing through commercial deployment. You will define experimental strategy, drive resolution of complex scale-up challenges, and provide technical leadership across R&D, Engineering, and Operations teams.
This role requires deep process engineering expertise, strong technical judgment, and the ability to translate ambiguous experimental findings into robust, scalable industrial processes.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead development of next-generation pyrolyzers and biomass conversion processes to maximize bio-oil yield, product quality, reliability, and economic performance.
- Define test plans and experimental campaigns that address critical technical uncertainties and inform commercialization decisions.
- Own investigation and resolution of complex process performance, operability, and scale-up challenges across pilot and demonstration systems.
- Develop and validate process models, material and energy balances, and engineering analyses to guide process improvements and future facility design.
- Lead interpretation and communication of experimental results, including recommendations for strategic development priorities.
- Prepare and review process engineering documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, PCNs, SOPs, and process equipment specifications.
- Lead or facilitate process safety activities including HAZOP, FMEA, MOC reviews, and commissioning/startup readiness reviews.
- Partner with Mechanical, Automation, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to ensure successful deployment of new process technologies.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
- Support 24/7 operations through a rotating after-hours coverage schedule.
You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in process development or scale-up engineering with pilot-scale systems.
- Demonstrated success scaling chemical or thermochemical technologies from pilot to commercial deployment.
- Deep understanding of heat transfer, reaction engineering, mass and energy balances, process controls, and process safety.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills in complex industrial environments.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

This role owns the financial engine across HoldCo/SPV modeling, tax equity, ITC transfers, common/project equity, debt, fund governance, and investor reporting as deployments scale. The position translates customer demand, product readiness, installation capacity, and grid-services revenue into portfolios that institutional capital can underwrite. As the senior finance owner for the TPO business, this role partners with Operations, Product, Marketing, and Program teams to produce bankable unit economics, fundable portfolios, and board-ready capital plans. What You'll Own Capital Formation Own and extend financial models for project- and portfolio-level returns, fund waterfalls, tax-equity structures, scenario analysis, and consolidated HoldCo/SPV views. Raise tax equity to monetize §48E ITC and production-based attributes, manage diligence, negotiate term sheets, and close transactions. Sell and transfer ITCs under §6418, including sourcing buyers, negotiating pricing and indemnities, and managing credit insurance. Raise common/project equity and debt financing; manage relationships with banks, funds, and strategic capital partners. Legal-Entity Architecture & Governance Refine and scale the entity structure including HoldCo, SPVs, and FundCos.
