Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) — Part-Time, Autonomous Practice

Part-time opportunity for a PMHNP in Virginia to practice autonomously within a collaborative team environment. The role focuses on providing online mental health care for children, teens, and young adults, covered by most insurance. This position requires independent practice without an MD collaboration agreement while working alongside therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators.

What this role looks like

You will carry a part-time caseload providing comprehensive psychiatric care to children, teens, and young adults via telehealth. Afternoon, evening, and weekend availability is required.

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and formulate evidence-based diagnoses
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in partnership with patients and their families
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitor effectiveness, and adjust as needed
  • Provide brief supportive interventions and psychoeducation alongside medication management
  • Collaborate with therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators in regular case reviews
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in EHR
  • Educate families about diagnoses, treatment options, and expectations

What we're looking for

  • Active, unrestricted Virginia PMHNP license (multi-state or compact preferred)
  • Ability to practice independently without an MD collaboration agreement
  • PMHNP-BC board certification
  • Active DEA license
  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited PMHNP program
  • Experience with or strong interest in working with youth and families
  • Comfortable working independently in a telehealth environment
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
