Xometry is seeking an experienced and charismatic Senior Solutions Engineer - Automotive Production for a critical customer-facing role. This role supports Sales by providing perspective, feedback, and sharing knowledge learned from the front lines of the automotive and production engineering and manufacturing community. This role is a unique blend of customer engagement, technical expertise, and project management. Solutions Engineering will report into the Pre-Sales Engineering community, which is dually led by Sales and Operations.

Responsibilities

Customer Engagement and Sales:

  • Partner with Account Executives to drive account growth and retention
  • Discover, illuminate, digest, organize and execute major projects
  • Join Account Executives in onsite visits with customers when appropriate
  • Proactively identify and address potential manufacturing challenges (including DFM)
  • Stay informed about upcoming customer projects and initiatives to ensure alignment with capabilities
  • Gather customer insights and feedback to inform sales strategies

Pre-Sales Engineering:

  • Assist Pre-Sales Engineering with knowledge gathering, digestion, and compiling correct and competitive quotes
  • Combine customer knowledge, partner knowledge, and system knowledge to rapidly address customer needs and shepherd projects to delivery
  • Provide project management and oversight on complex opportunities
  • Fully own, from Discovery to Execution, 3-5 major projects
  • Create, organize and demonstrate cost breakdowns and statement of work documents

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in automotive manufacturing and program management roles
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Experience using Xometry's services from a customer perspective; partner perspective is a bonus
  • Deep familiarity with automotive manufacturing methods, materials, and products
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing principles, including drawings and GD&T
  • Strong experience in Injection Molding; Stamping, Castings, Forgings are a bonus
  • Familiarity with ISO9001, IATF 16949, APQP/PPAP and related industry practices
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills in remote/digital environments
  • Ability to travel 25%–35% as needed
  • Experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite

Day to Day Responsibilities: Analyze engineering models/drawings to define the sequence of manufacturing operations to ensure that the design intent and component quality can be achieved. Make proper estimations, taking into consideration such factors as materials, tooling, manufacturing times, inspection times, and types of equipment required. Work closely with Machinists, Quality, Engineering, Management, and other team members to successfully satisfy the end customer. Experience with sourcing material and finishes. CNC machining/manufacturing cost estimating experience on prototype, low volume, and high-volume quantities.
