Senior Full Stack Engineer (Core Engine)

About the Role

As a Senior Full Stack Development Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain scalable applications and APIs that power mission-critical healthcare and insurance workflows. The role emphasizes backend architecture, service development, data processing, and system integration to ensure high performance, reliability, and maintainability. You will leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot, along with modern testing approaches like automated API and workflow validation.

This hybrid role is based in Concord, California, with an expectation of working in the office at least two days per week.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and core platform components
• Build scalable systems using Java and Spring Boot or similar frameworks
• Develop and support RESTful APIs and service integrations
• Participate in system design and architecture discussions
• Collaborate with product, implementation, QA, and engineering teams
• Support complex data processing and integration workflows
• Ensure systems are secure, reliable, and performant under high transaction volumes
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Write clean, testable code with strong unit and integration coverage
• Apply shift-left testing and continuous quality improvement practices
• Improve system observability through logging and monitoring enhancements
• Troubleshoot production and integration issues

What You'll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience
• Strong Java and backend service development experience
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and distributed systems
• Experience with Spring Boot or similar frameworks
• Strong SQL skills (Oracle preferred) and familiarity with NoSQL databases
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (Copilot, Claude, etc.)
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or similar)
• Strong understanding of Agile methodologies
• Experience building scalable backend systems

Nice to Have

• Experience in healthcare, insurance, or financial services
• Exposure to high-volume transaction processing environments
• Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Familiarity with Elastic Cloud
• Experience with API testing tools (Playwright, Postman)
• Knowledge of observability tools (ELK, Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana)
• Experience handling sensitive data (HIPAA / PHI / PII)

Pay Transparency

Compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for performance-based bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision coverage, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.

$120,000—$150,000 USD
