The Role

Vector Atomic is building next-generation quantum devices designed for real-world applications, including GPS-free navigation, high-precision timing, geophysical exploration, and telecommunications. As a Senior Rust Software Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader within a rapidly growing, collaborative team delivering practical, transformational quantum technologies. In this high-impact role, you will architect and write production-quality Rust code, driving the software strategy for advanced quantum instruments while collaborating closely with physicists, electronics engineers, and firmware engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Architecture: Design and develop reliable, high-performance, production-quality software architectures in Rust.
  • System Control & Drivers: Architect and verify system controllers on ARM SoCs; design user-space drivers for complex peripherals; develop low-latency data acquisition pipelines.
  • Advanced Algorithm Implementation: Implement and optimize critical control loops and precision algorithms for quantum sensing instruments.
  • Hardware Integration & Bring-up: Lead board testing, hardware bring-up, and implement fault-tolerant error-handling systems in collaboration with hardware teams.
  • Quantum Software Infrastructure: Develop and scale core software libraries for control and automation of next-generation quantum systems.
  • Mentorship & Process Improvement: Conduct code reviews, lead retrospectives, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Proven experience in embedded or hardware-adjacent environments.
  • U.S. citizen, lawful U.S. permanent resident, refugee, or asylee in compliance with U.S. export control laws.
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a laboratory environment with physical hardware and complex test setups.
  • Exceptional communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with C/C++ or Python and scientific libraries.
  • Expertise in advanced control algorithms such as PID loops and fixed-point digital filters.
  • Experience interfacing with hardware via TCP/UDP, UART, SPI, and I2C.
  • Experience with SoC/FPGA architectures and Linux device driver development.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes, function generators, and voltmeters.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $142,113 - $186,063 per year. Total compensation includes base, bonus, equity, and benefits, and is based on education, qualifications, experience, office location, and market data.
