Backend Data Engineer - Java/Scala

Description

Our team builds settlement and cash processing systems that enable reliable, scalable financial operations across markets, product lines, and partners. These systems power revenue tracking, tax reporting, and regulatory compliance, processing millions of transactions daily with precision.

Engineers design and maintain backend and data platform capabilities supporting settlement and bank transactions, compliant financial records, and global regulatory requirements. The team is revamping the historical settlement system to align with a modular architecture strategy and expanding into payment fees analytics to optimize a major cost center.

What You’ll Do

• Gain deep expertise in revenue and settlement systems and their role in financial operations and compliance.
• Design and implement scalable backend and data systems processing millions of transactions daily.
• Build self-serve tools enabling Finance teams to manage revenue and settlement configurations independently.
• Develop modular platform capabilities encoding critical enterprise workflows.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Finance stakeholders to deliver scalable, auditable, and reliable systems.
• Champion engineering best practices, architecture, and operational excellence.

Who You Are

• Deep expertise in backend (Java) or data engineering with large-scale financial data processing experience.
• Experience with Spark, Flink, or Beam and Scala for data engineering.
• Strong foundation in system design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with cloud-native development, ideally in Google Cloud Platform.
• Commitment to reliability, maintainability, auditability, and code quality.
• Comfortable collaborating in evolving, cross-functional environments.
