Lead Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Senior • Hybrid

25,000 - 32,000 PLN

Krakow, Poland

What's the role?

At HERE Technologies, we maintain a massive database of HD Map data that serves as the "brain" for self-driving vehicles. But before a car hits the real road, it must drive millions of virtual kilometers.

To enable this, we built SceneXtract a tool that allows simulation engineers to find specific road scenarios using natural language.

We are looking for a versatile, "best tool for the job" engineer. We don't need a specialist in one specific protocol; we need someone who can dive into a massive data lake and build the high-performance bridges required to make that data move.

Currently, our challenge is building a sophisticated conversion engine to translate complex internal data structures into external formats. This involves deep JVM (Java/Kotlin) work for performance-critical logic, while simultaneously utilizing Python to integrate AI Agents and LLMs that make the data searchable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build the "Bridge": Take ownership of designing and implementing high-performance libraries that transform complex data at scale

  • Be a Technical Driver: Beyond just writing code, you will help shape the architecture and ensure the systems we build are clean, testable, and scalable

  • Work Across Ecosystems: You’ll spend your morning in the JVM building a high-performance engine and your afternoon in Python working with AI agents or cloud-native services

  • Champion Quality: Set the bar for engineering excellence. This means mentoring peers through code reviews and ensuring "done" includes robust performance and unit testing

  • Solve Ambiguous Problems: Translate high-level goals into technical reality. You’ll have the autonomy to decide how to bridge the gap between our data and the end-user's needs

Who are you?

  • Core Engineering Strength: You have a deep command of Java or Kotlin and understand how to build performant, reusable libraries

  • Versatile Mindset: You are language-agnostic. You see Python or Shell scripting as essential tools to solve problems, especially in the realm of AI and Cloud logic

  • Systems Thinker: You care about the "big picture." You look at how data flows through a system and how to make that flow as efficient as possible

  • Pragmatic & Adaptable: You are comfortable jumping into a new domain, learning the necessary standards (whatever they may be), and applying solid engineering principles to them

  • Cloud Literate: You’re comfortable navigating AWS environments and understand the basics of containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to tackle meaningful and challenging problems

  • A chance to continuously learn and stay on top of the latest technology trends

  • Work that has real-world impact, shaping the future of mobility and technology

  • Regular feedback to help you grow and succeed in your role

  • A collaborative and supportive team environment where your contributions are valued

  • Competitive salary plus bonus

  • Flexible working hours and a hybrid working environment

  • Medical coverage for you and your family

  • This role is eligible for Creative Tax Incentive scheme in Poland” or KUP (Autorskie Koszty Uzyskania Przychodu)

  • Option to work on a B2B contract (please note: benefits, bonus and KUP do not apply in this case)
