About the Team:
About the Role:
We’re seeking a Staff Network Engineer to architect, implement, and maintain the networking infrastructure that powers our large-scale metal additive manufacturing platform. This is a hands-on, systems-level role embedded in a multidisciplinary R&D team that includes robotics, machine learning, data, and software engineers. You'll be responsible for designing and deploying local networks that connect robotic systems, sensors, edge compute devices, and operator interfaces throughout our manufacturing facility. This includes supporting wired and wireless systems, tuning network performance for time-sensitive workloads, and ensuring alignment with our enterprise IT security posture. This is not a traditional IT helpdesk or maintenance role—your focus will be on building systems, collaborating with domain experts, and solving unique real-world networking problems in a production environment.
- Design, implement, and maintain high-performance local networks across multiple robotic cells and compute systems
- Collaborate with robotics and infrastructure teams to support deterministic or low-latency communication where needed
- Configure and manage switches, routers, and wireless access points in both experimental and production environments
- Interface with our enterprise IT security team to ensure compliance while enabling local R&D flexibility
- Support network-level debugging, monitoring, and diagnostics
- Own documentation and standardization for networking infrastructure in the facility
- Help scale and adapt the network as new systems come online and data volumes grow
About You:
- 5+ years of experience designing, deploying, and operating network infrastructure in industrial, R&D, manufacturing, or high-performance computing (HPC) environments
- Strong experience with wired and wireless networking technologies, including switch and router configuration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management
- Hands-on experience with Linux-based systems and CLI-driven network configuration and diagnostics
- Proven ability to work on-site in technical environments, collaborating closely with hardware, software, and systems engineers
- Experience supporting industrial or manufacturing environments, including uptime-critical and production-floor networks
Nice to haves but not required:
- Familiarity with time synchronization technologies, such as IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP-2008 / PTPv2 and/or IEEE 1588-2019 / PTPv2.1)
- Experience supporting real-time systems, robotics platforms, or deterministic/low-latency networks
- Exposure to ROS, DDS, MQTT, or similar real-time or publish/subscribe messaging frameworks
- Experience with network automation and configuration management tools (e.g., scripting, infrastructure-as-code, or orchestration frameworks)
- Experience designing or supporting high-bandwidth, low-latency video or sensor data platforms
- Experience operating in regulated or compliance-driven environments, including ITAR, CUI, or similar requirements

About the Role: As the Avionics Systems Lead Engineer within the Interplanetary Program, you will own revolutionizing the next generation of in-space compute and storage capability by leveraging the latest terrestrial technologies and challenging the status quo of how high-capability compute and storage are done in the space sector. You will be responsible for delivering fully functional space-ready compute units to the flight spacecraft as well as setting up ground-based hardware twins for hardware in the loop and terrestrial based compute capability. You will be working closely with the science team to maximize capability by balancing the compute (CPU, GPU, TPU, etc..), memory, storage needs with the technical constraints of the flight spacecraft (power, thermal, EMI, mechanical, etc…). This role will also work closely in conjunction with the software team to bring up the core software infrastructure both on the spacecraft and on the ground side, and iterating with the software team to ensure the full compute system operates as intended in all environments. This role will be a high responsibility, high autonomy, and high accountability role within a fast-paced, iterative environment, where rapid prototyping, early testing, and continuous learning are key to success. You’ll lead hands-on development campaigns to evaluate key technologies, derisk interfaces, and validate performance before full system integration. You’ll also work across internal and external teams to turn concepts into hardware, balancing agility and rigor as you move quickly from analysis to prototypes to flight-ready systems.
