About hyperexponential (hx)
At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry, which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real-world outcomes: whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.
Until now, insurance has been making billion-dollar decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision - helping them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.
Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we're scaling globally - already trusted by nearly 50 of the world's largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.
What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do - from building the world's first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates.
What makes hx different is the people who build it. Here, impact isn't tied to title or tenure; it's defined by the challenges you take on and the discipline you bring. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you'll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company engineered to endure.
If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next.
About the Kernel team
The Kernel team sits at the core of hx’s platform, responsible for the execution engine that runs pricing models safely, reliably, and at scale. Their work underpins the decisions insurers make using hx, ensuring complex pricing logic executes consistently while maintaining the performance and reliability required for mission critical underwriting workflows.
Within this space, the team builds and maintains the systems that interpret, execute, and validate model logic. This includes improving the safety and determinism of execution, strengthening automated testing and verification, and developing tools that allow engineers and actuaries to trust the platform when deploying high value pricing models.
In this role, you will support the Kernel team by contributing well scoped features, tests, and internal tooling while learning how the execution engine works end to end. You will work closely with experienced engineers to understand the architecture, investigate issues, and gradually take on more complex ownership as your understanding of the system grows.
Your engineering responsibilities
Implement small, well scoped backend improvements within the Kernel execution engine, delivering reliable changes that strengthen the stability and correctness of model execution.
Extend and maintain automated test suites that validate execution behaviour, increasing confidence in changes and helping the team maintain a high standard of safety in a critical system.
Contribute to internal tooling and scripts that support testing, debugging, and developer workflows, improving the speed and reliability with which the team can analyse Kernel behaviour.
Assist with structured debugging investigations by running defined scenarios, collecting logs and metrics, and summarising findings that help engineers identify root causes more quickly.
Learn the architecture and execution model of Kernel through hands on development and collaboration, steadily progressing from small tasks to more complex changes within the system.
Work closely with experienced engineers through reviews and pairing, contributing to a collaborative engineering culture while building the discipline required to operate safely in a high impact backend system.
What you need to be successful
Built backend components or services in Python, or a strongly typed compiled language such as Rust, Go, Java, Kotlin, C, or C++, delivering reliable functionality and maintainable code in production or academic systems.
Written automated tests for your own work, helping ensure changes behave as expected and maintaining confidence in system correctness as software evolves.
Applied core computer science fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms to implement efficient and reliable backend logic.
Investigated software issues by reproducing problems, gathering relevant logs or data, and clearly communicating observations and hypotheses to collaborators.
Collaborated effectively with other engineers through code reviews, pair programming, or mentorship, responding constructively to feedback and improving your work through iteration.
Demonstrated a strong learning mindset by picking up new technologies or languages, with enthusiasm to develop expertise in Rust and systems engineering over time.

Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you’ll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company engineered to endure. If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next. About Your Role Engineering at hx tackles complexity that matters. Submission Triage is one of our most strategically important product areas, transforming how the world's largest insurers handle inbound submissions. Where carriers once relied on slow, manual processes to sort through documents, emails, and attachments, we're building AI-powered workflows that convert chaos into clarity - enabling underwriters to focus on the risks that matter most. The Triage team sits at the intersection of ambitious product vision and technical depth. You'll work alongside Product, AI specialists, and client-facing teams to architect systems that ingest unstructured data from multiple channels, apply intelligent triage logic, and deliver actionable insights at speed. This isn't incremental improvement - it's reimagining how submission intake works in a market where every hour counts. As a Senior Engineer , you'll own meaningful architecture decisions, shape product direction through engineering judgement, and see your work deployed into production environments at global insurers within weeks. Success here is measured in faster quote turnarounds, reduced manual effort, and revenue growth for one of hx's highest-priority products. Check out our Engineering Candidate Hub for a behind the scenes look at the team you would be joining! Your Senior Engineer Responsibilities Design and build scalable backend architecture for Triage that handles diverse submission formats (Excel, PDF, Word, images, email) and converts unstructured data into structured, actionable fields with measurable improvements in processing speed and accuracy. Partner directly with Product and clients to translate underwriting workflows into technical requirements, turning ambiguous problems into concrete system designs that demonstrably reduce manual triage time. Architect data pipelines that integrate AI-powered extraction with deterministic business logic, ensuring reliability and explainability while accelerating time-to-value for new client deployments. Drive technical decisions around system modularity, API design, and multi-tenant configuration strategies that support diverse client needs without creating unmaintainable complexity or slowing iteration speed. Collaborate with AI teams to identify where machine learning adds genuine value versus where traditional logic performs better, optimising for both accuracy and client trust in production environments. Establish patterns and architectural standards for a strategically critical product area, raising engineering quality while maintaining the velocity needed to respond to market demands and competitive pressures. What You Need To Be Successful Built and scaled production backend systems on the JVM (Java, Kotlin, or similar) that handled complex data processing or workflow orchestration, delivering measurable improvements in throughput, latency, or system reliability. Designed architectures for systems that ingested unstructured or semi-structured inputs and transformed them into structured outputs, demonstrating strong judgement around data validation, error handling, and pipeline resilience. Worked closely with product teams or clients to shape technical solutions based on real-world workflows, translating user needs into engineering decisions that balanced delivery speed with long-term maintainability. Delivered features in ambiguous problem spaces where requirements evolved rapidly, showing ownership over outcomes rather than simply executing pre-defined tickets or specifications. Made pragmatic trade-offs between technical excellence and time-to-market, shipping solutions that were good enough to validate hypotheses while maintaining the quality standards needed for production reliability. Collaborated with cross-functional teams (product, design, AI, or customer success) to drive alignment around technical direction, demonstrating strong communication skills and an ability to influence without formal authority. We're open to candidates based outside Warsaw, provided the 2-day commitment is realistically sustainable from where you live. Please don't treat this as a starting point for negotiation - we value the structure and consistency it brings and we want you to see the value in it too. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you'll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company engineered to endure. If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next. About the team Quality Engineering at hx is undergoing a strategic shift. We're moving from an embedded model, where QEs sit in product teams and deliver hands-on testing, to an enablement model, where a small central team builds the tools, standards, and coaching that help every engineer own quality. It's one of hx's boldest engineering experiments: making quality genuinely self-service without sacrificing the rigour our customers rely on. The team sits at the intersection of test automation, AI tooling, release readiness, and organisational change. We're building AI-powered systems that make end-to-end test creation accessible to all engineers, automate failure classification and routing, and provide the standards, guidance, and feedback loops teams need to make better quality decisions independently. That means shaping quality strategy, improving release risk assessment, and establishing lightweight, scalable processes for staging, deployment, and learning from failure. This is strategic work with company-wide impact, requiring technical depth, strong technical judgement, coaching capability, and comfort with ambiguity. As the third member of this newly formed team, you'll join at a pivotal moment. You'll contribute to the managed transition away from embedded QE support, take ownership of AI-powered automation tools still being defined, and build the foundations that allow hx to scale quality across dozens of engineering teams. Your work will shape whether teams can ship independently, whether release processes stay fast and trusted as we grow, and whether hx can maintain velocity without compromising reliability. Check out our Engineering Candidate Hub for a behind the scenes look at the team you would be joining! What you'll be doing Accelerate the development and adoption of hx's AI-powered end-to-end test writing agent, improving its accuracy and framework coverage to the point where at least 15 engineers across 5+ teams are independently writing E2E tests within six months of widespread release. Design and deploy an AI-powered nightly build analyser that automatically classifies test failures and routes them to owning teams, reducing daily manual review effort by 80% and proving reliable enough to extend to the release pipeline. Establish quality self-service foundations for product teams by delivering test design guidance, executable E2E framework documentation (as AI agent specifications), quality standards references, and release risk assessment templates that enable at least three teams to complete release assessments without direct QE involvement. Support the managed withdrawal of QE support from embedded product teams by contributing to fixed-scope deliverables that ensure no critical gaps in E2E coverage or delivery confidence, enabling both current QEs to transition on schedule with no unplanned regressions. Grow E2E test coverage across the organisation through coaching, pairing, and AI tooling support, increasing the number of product teams writing their own E2E tests to at least 50% within the first 12 months. Build credibility and influence across engineering teams by working alongside engineers to solve real quality challenges, demonstrating the value of team-owned quality through concrete examples rather than process mandates, and making quality ownership feel like teams' own goal rather than an external requirement. What you'll need to have done Built AI-powered tools or automations in production environments (e.g., prompt engineering, agent design, RAG pipelines, or CI-integrated analysis), demonstrating the ability to design solutions others rely on rather than just using AI assistants as coding aids. Designed and implemented automated test strategies across multiple test levels (unit, integration, E2E) for complex systems, making sound judgements about what to test at which level and communicating those trade-offs clearly to non-specialist engineers. Owned end-to-end test automation using Python and Playwright (or equivalent frameworks), writing clean, maintainable tests with clear patterns that other engineers can extend, including experience managing flaky test suites and establishing conventions for new automation from scratch. Coached or enabled engineering teams to improve their testing practices through hands-on pairing and mentoring, demonstrating measurable improvements in team capability such as increased test coverage, reduced manual testing dependencies, or improved release confidence. Influenced quality improvements across teams you didn't directly manage, building credibility through practical demonstration and making benefits concrete rather than relying on process mandates or formal authority. Operated effectively in environments characterised by ambiguity and rapid change, taking ownership of problems from identification through to iterative solution, and adapting approach based on feedback without losing momentum. You're unlikely to thrive here if You prefer clearly defined processes and established playbooks over building the systems and standards from first principles in a rapidly evolving environment. You're more comfortable being the person who delivers quality work directly rather than enabling others to build that capability themselves, or you measure success primarily by your own output rather than what teams can achieve independently. You view AI tools with scepticism or aren't genuinely curious about how to apply them practically to solve real engineering problems, or you're unwilling to learn new languages and frameworks as the problem demands. If reading our Culture Document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be the place where you'll do your best work. We're building something that asks for commitment and conviction, and we want you to feel excited by the opportunity to grow with us. Compensation At hx, we're committed to salary transparency. CI/CD in practice Practical experience with testing and deployment strategies in high-frequency shipping environments. Observability and on-call maturity A solid grasp of what good observability looks like and how to build healthy on-call practices that don't burn people out. Bonus Experience at an early-stage or scaling startup. Exposure to modern AI and ML systems. Experience shipping product without a dedicated product manager. TECH STACK TypeScript, React, Node.js, AWS, Terraform, PostgreSQL, OpenAI, Azure AI. The team uses GitHub, Slack, Linear, Figma, and Notion day to day. THE TEAM Small, senior, and in-person. The office is in central Wrocław, next to the main train station. The expectation is 4–5 days a week in the office — this is a deliberate choice, not a compromise. Relocation support is available for the right candidate. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary $130,000 – $190,000 USD depending on experience, plus competitive equity. Wellness and commute stipend $100 per month. Hardware Premium hardware provided — MacBook Pro and AirPods. Food Daily in-office lunch and dinner. Time off 20 PTO days plus 9 US public holidays. The company is in the best position globally to solve the "Physical AI deployment gap" - currently the hottest topic in Artificial Intelligence. They build intelligent robots that are already operating at scale, and they are looking for someone to help "teach" these robots to understand the real world. The engineering team consists of veterans from Google, Nvidia, ByteDance , and top robotics companies. The organization values a culture of ownership, offering freedom to build amazing things without micro-management. 🎯 Your Role in the Team As a Senior Robotics Software Engineer, you will face hard technical problems right from the start. Key challenges for the first 3 months include migrating the technology stack to ROS2 and introducing "Digital Twins" in Nvidia IsaacSim . You will: Core Robotics Development: Design and implement modular control systems. The team needs robust code, not just high-level GUI configurations. Simulation & Digital Twins: Work with Nvidia IsaacSim / Omniverse to create accurate simulations that speed up deployment. ROS2 Migration: Lead the architectural shift to ROS2 to ensure the robots are future-proof. Handle Reality: Develop heuristics to handle physical interactions and detect anomalies (e.g., verifying if a robot picked the correct item). Mentoring: Share your software and design experience with the team, promoting leadership and technical excellence. What We Expect ✅ The ideal candidate combines strong Core Software Skills with a genuine passion for Robotics. Software Engineering Core: Strong proficiency in Python or C++ and Cloud technologies. Robotics Stack: Experience with ROS / ROS2 and simulation tools like Gazebo, Nvidia IsaacSim, or Nvidia Omniverse . The Right Mindset: If you have prior experience with robotics technologies but later worked as a "standard" software engineer, you are a perfect fit! Language: Fluent English. Note: The client is NOT looking for specialists experienced only in programming industrial robots via high-level GUIs. What We Offer 🎁 Top Compensation: 26k-32k PLN gross + 75% Tax-Deductible Costs (AKUP). Equity: Significant equity package – you become a co-owner of the company. Real Impact: You will see your code powering robots in production environments, solving problems no one has solved before. Best Team: Work with and learn from engineers who built Google Warsaw, unicorn startups (Climate Corp), and tested rocket engines. Freedom & Responsibility: Flexible working hours and a hybrid model (partly remote work possible). The company trusts its engineers to do their job effectively. Our clients are working on some of the most advanced industrial programs in the world — and they rely on software that can keep up. What you'll do Own the architecture and technical direction of the platform’s core Tackle the hardest engineering problems, including performance bottlenecks, complex integrations, and architectural evolution Define and evolve backend engineering standards across all teams Lead design reviews and author RFCs/ADRs for high-impact technical decisions Partner with the Director of Software Engineering, Product, and engineering leadership to assess technical feasibility early, shape direction, and resolve tradeoffs before they become delivery problems Mentor senior engineers code reviews, architecture workshops, pair programming, technical discussions, and tech talks that improve how the organization designs, builds, and operates software Raise the quality bar across the backend through example, teaching, and clear standards Required skills & experience 8+ years of backend engineering experience, with deep, proven mastery of C# and modern .NET A demonstrated track record operating successfully in a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Senior Tech Lead role Proven experience architecting, building, and owning large, complex systems end-to-end, including both monolithic and distributed architectures Expert-level SQL and database design skills, including diagnosing slow queries in production and designing schemas that hold up under real load Deep practical expertise with Entity Framework, including performance tradeoffs, query behavior, and data access strategy Strong architectural judgment and experience applying concepts such as DDD and clean architecture pragmatically A strong quality mindset, including test automation strategy and clear standards for what “done” means Strong written and verbal communication skills in English — you are comfortable explaining technical tradeoffs, mentoring other engineers, leading code reviews, and facilitating architecture discussions Enthusiasm for and hands-on proficiency with AI coding tools such as Cursor and Claude Code as productivity multipliers Nice to have You'll stand out if you bring any of the following: Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure at scale, with Azure being a strong advantage Experience with Angular or a modern frontend framework - enough to make informed architectural decisions across the full stack Familiarity with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipeline design at an organizational level, not just usage Experience designing for compliance-driven deployment constraints - data sovereignty, tenant isolation, and schema management across numbers of independent databases Background or genuine curiosity about Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) -understanding the domain makes the hardest problems tractable Our tech stack Backend: .NET, C#, Entity Framework, SQL Server / Azure SQL Messaging: Azure Service Bus, MassTransit Observability: OpenTelemetry, Grafana stack Frontend: Angular, our own Angular Component Library Cloud: Azure CI/CD: Azure DevOps AI tooling: Cursor, Claude Code, and other modern AI-assisted development tools What you’ll get in return Real authority, real access. Direct collaboration with the CPO and Director of Development. Your decisions will be heard, debated, and acted on - with organizational backing to make standards stick. Customers building the next century. Rockets, fusion reactors, hypersonic systems. The problems you solve here have consequences that matter. People who will match you. You'll work alongside engineers and leaders with backgrounds from SpaceX and other high-bar organizations. Expect to be challenged, not just followed. AI at the foundation, not the edge. You'll be building the architecture that makes AI native to the platform - not retrofitting it later. Hybrid working with three days in our Kraków office, comprehensive healthcare including life insurance, and a Multisport Card. This role is for someone serious about their craft. If that is you, we would like to talk.
