This time you have the chance to be part of a project related to the development, consulting and support of IT systems for Frontex. The European Border and Coast Guard Agency supports EU Member States and Schengen-associated countries in the management of the EU's external borders and the fight against cross-border crime.


Our expectations

  • At least 8 years of relevant professional IT experience

  • Minimum 5 years of proven project experience in a similar position or profile

  • Master’s degree or 5 years of higher education

  • Minimum B2 level proficiency in English (certification is an advantage)

  • At least two of the following certifications:

    • Master level certificate in architecting software solutions (e.g. TOGAF Certified)

    • Certified UML Professional certificate at foundation level

    • or equivalent certifications recognized internationally

  • Proven experience as a key architect in the development of at least two software systems

  • Strong background in designing enterprise level software systems including capacity and security planning

  • Deep technical knowledge of databases, application servers, communication middleware, web servers, GIS services, directory services, Microsoft-based security, business intelligence concepts, system integration and IDEs

  • Proficiency in UML-based design

  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies and lifecycles, including RUP, ISO12207 and agile methodologies

  • Proficiency with modelling tools such as Sparx Enterprise Architect, ARIS Architect or similar solutions

  • Practical experience designing and developing large-scale microservices-based systems

  • Hands-on experience with large knowledge systems and .NET-based custom solutions

  • Practical experience with Kafka, SQL Server, Redis, OpenShift/Kubernetes and Azure DevOps

  • Practical experience with Microsoft Azure services and solutions

  • Excellent communication, documentation and problem-solving skills


Main responsibilities

  • Set and uphold standards for system design, development, testing and overall quality

  • Design, document and communicate system architecture across teams and stakeholders

  • Define system interoperability and interfaces with external and internal systems

  • Elicit needs and analyse business, user and technical requirements

  • Translate business goals and technical expectations into coherent architectural solutions

  • Map project objectives, priorities, system components and required features

  • Analyse existing systems and identify feasible solution options

  • Maintain, monitor and evolve architecture throughout the system lifecycle

  • Estimate and size software development work

  • Contribute to system design, testing, quality assurance and change management processes

  • Prepare system documentation and deliver architectural presentations

  • Lead development teams and support development processes

  • Select, evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies

  • Collect and interpret system metrics to guide technical decisions

  • Optimise systems for performance, security and overall quality
