WhatsApp Data Science is looking for an experienced manager to lead our Growth Data Science team, advancing our understanding of trends in users behavior to influence strategy, identify opportunities to drive growth, and execute on projects by partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver long-term impact.
WhatsApp Growth has lean teams that take outsized ownership and the scope/impact per person is typically larger than equivalent teams at Meta. The work is composed of a few different areas: US Growth, Access/SMS, Global Growth and cross-Meta features.
We are in the midst of advancing our approach to analytics and becoming an increasingly data-informed organization. We're looking for someone who can provide transformational leadership, institute new methodologies, and shape a healthy focus on data. You can be expected to build the growth playbook for WhatsApp, getting into the weeds of growth tactics as well as zooming out to the big picture of the overall strategy and approach.
WhatsApp wants to become the the most preferred messaging app in several large markets. To get there, we need a capable data leader to bring data to find the biggest opportunities for growth, help us increase velocity, and ultimately get millions more people onto Whatsapp.
Data Science Manager, WhatsApp Growth Responsibilities
Shape the strategic direction of our growth initiatives
Invest in data foundations and analytical methods to sharpen our understanding of growth levers
Hire & support the DS team in an ambiguous and fast paced environment
Partner with a cross-functional team to achieve our ambitious long-term goals
Monitor performance against Whatsapp's ambitious growth goals
Build strong experimentation rigor across Growth experiments
Minimum Qualifications
BS degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, operations research, econometrics, computer science, engineering), or BS/MS in a quantitative discipline with equivalent working experience
A minimum of 7 years of work experience (3+ years with a Ph.D.) in applied quantitative field, including 2+ years of experience managing analytics teams
5+ years of experience in a team leadership role, including 2+ years of experience with people management through layers
A minimum of 2 years of experience working on consumer facing products
Experience communicating both in low-level technical details as well as high-level strategies
Experience in cross-functional partnership among teams of Engineering, Design, PM, Data Engineering
Demonstrated executive communication skills, given the need to present to Leadership Executives at Whatsapp
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or another quantitative field.
Proven track record of leading high-performing analytics teams.
7+ years of experience doing quantitative analysis, statistical modeling or machine learning in the experimentation space
Prior experience directly working on growth problems for consumer apps
