What to Expect
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to support our vehicle-level homologation test activities, with focus on Range testing. This Engineering Technician will help drive Tesla’s worldwide rollout of new vehicles by applying previously acquired knowledge of Tesla vehicle systems and diagnostics to configure and diagnose vehicles in preparation for, and during, range tests. The role requires someone highly organized and confident in their ability to manage projects along a very fluid schedule. This full-time role is based out Merritt Island, Florida and requires the flexibility of traveling (up to 50%) to various domestic and international destinations when necessary, to test vehicles on public roads, test tracks, and Proving Grounds. This position requires this individual to be available and flexible to work morning shift, mid shift, and night shift when needed.
What You’ll Do
Prepare prototype and production vehicles for Homologation range tests for multiple global markets, including equipment installation, parts sourcing, coastdown operation, following checklists, mileage accumulation, alignments, firmware updates and vehicle diagnostics
Perform diagnosis and repair of prototype vehicle’s electrical/mechanical/software
Work with the lead engineering technician to maintain vehicle preparation timelines, document and communicate issues found, and maintain fleet vehicles
Diagnose any vehicle or equipment issues that arise during testing by supporting both on & off-site test trips
Design and build new instrumentation or test equipment as needed
Work with team to maintain a sustainable work schedule
Maintain detailed records of all work performed on the vehicles
Communicate directly with engineers and other technicians to ensure a high level of technical support
Install instrumentation, test equipment, and other components on prototype vehicles in accordance with engineering specifications, standards, and/or test procedures
Generate test reports to document results of testing and to communicate issues found
What You’ll Bring
2 years or more experience as an Engineering technician, Service, Test technician, or Manufacturing technician at Tesla or any another OEM
2 year technical/automotive degree required
Master technician preferred
High voltage certifications and ASE preferred
In-depth knowledge of electric vehicle systems (both in terms of operation and diagnostics)
Excellent attention to detail, and prior experience in documenting issues/reporting
Ability to adjust to changes frequently, multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills and written and spoken English
Must be comfortable driving prototype vehicles at (or over) their limits on closed courses
Valid driver's license required
